Conference USA Weekend Recap (Feb. 27th-March 1st)

Charlotte picked up two big wins over the weekend with the first coming over N.C. State 1-0. Sean Geoghegan gave up 3 hits and issue 3 walks over 6 scoreless innings, while striking out six. Their second win came over UNC-Greensboro 2-1. J.D. Prochaska struck out ten over 6.1 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk. Derek Gallello was 1-4 with an RBI. They were scheduled to play N.C. MAC Weekend Recap (Feb. 27th-March 1st)

macAkron (5-4): 

The Zips lost a couple of 1-run games and salvaged a win against Belmont over the weekend. They lost on Friday 6-5 to Mercer despite Dom Iero going 2-4 with a run and an RBI. They bounced-back nicely with an 8-3 win over Belmont. Joey Havrilak was 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBI in the win. Jon Pusateri gave up 3 hits and 1 walk over 5 scoreless innings. MAC Baseball Weekend Recap (Feb. 20th-22nd)

macAkron (4-2):
The Zips took two-out-of-three in what was supposed to be a four game series that was cut short because of weather. They won the first game 2-1 thanks to a 2-4, 2 RBI performance by Dom Iero. John Valek III gave up 1 ER over 7 innings, while striking out six. They fell 1-0 in the second game, which was cut short to just seven innings. J.T. Brubaker gave up 1 run over 6 innings, allowing just 4 hits. They won game three 5-4. Daulton Mosbarger was 1-3 with 2 runs scored, while Iero collected two more RBI. CUSA Baseball Weekend Recap Feb. 13-15

Florida International (2-1):

The Panthers took on Tennessee during college baseball’s opening weekend and they stood up to the tall task winning two-of-three. On Friday they beat the Volunteers 4-3 thanks to a 2 RBI game by Josh Anderson. Jack Schaaf helped out as well scoring two runs. Their lone loss came on Saturday, 9-2. Anderson was 2-4 with a solo home run in this one, while Mitchell Robinson was 3-4 with a run scored. FIU blanked Tennessee 3-0 in the rubber match. MAC Weekend Recap (Feb. 13th-15th)

Akron started off the year with a 7-5 win over Furman. Daulton Mosbarger was 2-4 with 3 RBI. They dropped the second game to Furman 8-7 in 10 innings. Dom Iero went 4-6 at the plate with 2 runs and 3 RBI. They bounced-back to finish off the weekend with a strong 11-3 win. Kris Simonton got it going with three hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI. 2015 CBD Season Preview: Conference USA

ConferenceUSALogoIn back-to-back years, and for the fourth time in the past six years, the Rice Owls took home the Conference USA Tournament crown. The baseball powerhouse was also the regular season champion going 23-7 in conference play, finishing three games ahead of the second place finisher in the UAB Blazers.

UTSA upset the Blazers in the first round of the tournament and rode that momentum all the way to the championship game before being humbled by the Owls 11-5.  Continue reading 2015 CBD Season Preview: Conference USA

2015 MAC Baseball Preview

Despite only losing four conference games and finishing with an overall record of 38-16, the Ball State Cardinals were left out of the postseason last year because they fell to the eventual MAC Conference Champion Kent State in the second round of the tournament. CUSA Weekend Preview (May 15th-17th)

This is it, the final weekend of the regular season for CUSA baseball. The regular season title comes down to Rice and UAB. At 20-7, Rice sits one game ahead of UAB who is 19-8 in conference. Rice swept UAB earlier in the year so they would win any sort of tie-breaker. Southern Miss could tie Rice with three wins this weekend, but Rice holds the head-to-head tie breaker over them as well.
