Irvine, Calif. – Monday morning, the Big West Conference office announced that Cal State Fullerton’s Adam Jorgenson and Erik Komatsu swept this week’s Easton Big West Pitcher/Player of the Week Awards with their performances last week against then-No. 14 San Diego and UC Riverside.
Jorgenson, who picks up the weekly conference honor for the second straight week, turned in one of the more dominant pitching performances Titan history out of the bullpen Friday night (Mar. 28), earning the win in the Big West Conference opener at Goodwin Field. Fullerton, Calif. – Carl Uhl’s 12th-inning RBI-groundout broke a 4-4 tie and lifted UC Riverside (7-13, 1-1) to a 6-4 Big West Conference baseball victory over Cal State Fullerton (14-9, 1-1) Saturday night in the teams’ second consecutive extra-inning affair at Goodwin Field.
Ryan Platt (1-1) hurled six innings of two-hit ball in relief of starter Matt Larkins to pick up his first win of the year. The right-hander struck out six and worked out of jams in the 9th and 11th with the Titans threatening. Continue reading
(Berkeley, CA) The #11 Cal Golden Bears (17-5-1) added another W as they gave the #4 Long Beach State Dirtbags (17-6) their first series loss of the season by a final score of 10-6. The Golden Bears took advantage of their home field advantage and abused the Dirtbags’ pitcher Vance Worley (3-1). Worley allowed a solo home run to Dylan Tonneson in the sixth, as Cal continued to bring the heat with another two runs in the seventh. Fullerton, Calif. – Erik Komatsu’s two-out, two-run triple tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and his one-out triple in the 16th inning set up a sacrifice fly by Chris Jones that gave Cal State Fullerton a dramatic 7-6 victory Friday night over UC Riverside in the teams’ Big West Conference opener.
Fullerton won its fifth game in a row to improve to 14-8 overall while the Highlanders fell to 6-13 after the longest game by innings in the 17-year history of Goodwin Field. Continue reading

LONG BEACH– Tyson Ross (4-0) out dueled Andrew Liebel (2-1) as No. 11-ranked California (16-5-1) won the opener of the three-game series with No. 4-ranked Long Beach State (17-5), 6-1. It was the first time an opponent has won an opening game of a three-game series against the Dirtbags this season.
Ross gave up five hits and struck out six over eight shutout innings. Ross produced 14 groundballs, including two double plays that ended LBSU threats in the middle innings. Ross began the game with three perfect innings and retired another seven in a row. Continue reading

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — UCI’s Brock Bardeen drove in the eventual game-winning run as the third-ranked Anteaters defeated Cal Poly, 12-4, in the Big West Conference opener Friday at Baggett Stadium. The win lifted UC Irvine to 18-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big West while Cal Poly fell to 8-13 (0-1 overall).
Bardeen was 1 for 3 with three RBI while Tyler Hoechlin also drove in three with a bases-loaded triple in the ninth. First baseman Jeff Cusick was 3 for 5 while Ryan Fisher was 2 for 4 with three runs scored. Casey Stevenson made his debut as an Anteater, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
