Installation of Nichols State Ben Meyer Diamond underway

THIBODAUX, La. – Ray E. Didier Field is receiving an upgrade to its infield and foul territory as construction began July 6 to install Geo-Surfaces artificial turf in those areas. The Nicholls baseball complex will now be known as Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

A transformative pledge was recently made by longtime Nicholls supporter Tommy Meyer, Ben Meyer’s brother. Ben Meyer was a Nicholls student who tragically died in a car accident in 2001 at the age of 23.

“I am very appreciative of Tommy – not only from a professional standpoint – I consider him to be a very, very close friend and great supporter,” said Nicholls Head Baseball Coach Seth Thibodeaux. “He’s been by my side since I’ve been the head coach here. I think he has a true, sincere love for Nicholls athletics and the people that work here and he wants to be a part of it.”

JONESBORO, Ark. (7/17/17) – Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced the hiring of former New Mexico Military Institute pitching coach Rowdy Hardy to the same position at A-State Monday afternoon.

Hardy began his coaching career at NMMI in July 2012 and has spent the last five seasons with the Broncos under head coach and former A-State assistant coach Chris Cook. Prior to his time at NMMI he completed a six-year stint in the minor leagues split between the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves organizations.

“We are real excited Rowdy Hardy will be our pitching coach for Red Wolves Baseball,” said Raffo. “He brings a great combination of a brilliant Division I baseball career at Austin Peay and a successful professional baseball experience as a player. Under his tutelage at New Mexico Military Institute he developed and managed a pitching staff that helped NMMI to its best records in program history. We welcome Rowdy and his family to the Jonesboro and A-State community.”
