LBSUSchedulePic_thumb.jpgLONG BEACH, Calif. – Head coach Troy Buckley and the Long Beach State Dirtbags have put together another challenging schedule for the 2015 season. The Dirtbags 2015 slate features eight opponents who made the postseason in 2014 and two who made the Super Regionals.

Fresh off its first postseason appearance in six years, the Dirtbags will again face one of the toughest schedules in the country as they look to get back into the NCAA Tournament. The eight opponents who made the tournament in 2014 account for 22 games in the 55-game schedule and six of the eight opponents will be played in the nonconference portion of the schedule.

The Dirtbags will face four postseason teams at home in 2015, beginning with a Tuesday game against Pepperdine on Feb. 17. LBSU will also host San Diego State in a midweek game on Mar. 10 and return the trip on May 5. Pac-12 member Washington visits Blair Field for a rare Monday contest on Mar. 16 and Cal State Fullerton will come to Blair for a nonconference, three-game series on Mar. 20-22.

Fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Dirtbags early in the season 17 of its first 21 games played at Blair Field this spring. The season opens with a three-game set against Big Ten opponent Michigan on Feb. 13-15. After 2014 Super Regional participant Pepperdine visits in the midweek, the Dirtbags host Utah Valley for a weekend series Feb. 20-22.

The first road test for the Beach comes on Feb. 24 in a midweek game at UCLA but Long Beach State returns home immediately for three games with Wichita State (Feb. 27-Mar. 1) and a midweek game with LMU (Mar. 3). LBSU then hits the road for its first three-game series with an NCAA Regional participant when it heads to Tempe, Ariz. for a weekend series at Arizona State on Mar. 6-8.

The Dirtbags are back at home for six consecutive games and five of the six are against teams that made the Regionals in 2014. San Diego State visits on Mar. 10 followed by a single game with George Washington on Mar. 11. After an off weekend, the Beach hosts Washington on Mar. 16 before welcoming Cal State Fullerton for the nonconference series.

The Dirtbags start Big West play at UC Santa Barbara on Mar. 27-29 and host CSUN on Apr. 2-4. UNLV will visit Blair between the two sets for a midweek game on Mar. 31. After the return trip to San Diego State, the Dirtbags will head to College World Series participant UC Irvine on Apr. 10-12 and turn south again for a single game at San Diego on Apr. 14.

UC Riverside visits Blair Field Apr. 17-19 and the Dirtbags head to LMU on Apr. 21 and go back to the Central Coast for a three-game series at Cal Poly on Apr. 24-26. After hosting UCLA on Apr. 28 and Hawaii on May 1-3, LBSU will hit the road for a single game at UNLV on May 5.

The Dirtbags then get a break from Big West play as it returns the trip to last year’s Big Ten champion Indiana. Long Beach State and Indiana face off three times in Bloomington, Ind. from May 8-10.

The season enters the home stretch as the Dirtbags host San Diego May 12 and UC Davis May 15-17. The regular season will come to a close with a marquee matchup as Long Beach State visits Cal State Fullerton for three games May 21-23.

The Dirtbags had their most successful campaign in Buckley’s four years in 2014 with a 34-26 overall record and a 17-7 mark in the Big West Conference. LBSU made the postseason and advanced to the NCAA Regional final.
