OMAHA, Neb. — Vanderbilt (49-20) defeated Texas, 4-3, in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning to advance to the 2014 College World Series championship round.

Tyler Campbell beat out an infield single on a slow chopper to shortstop with the bases loaded and two outs to allow Rhett Wiseman to score the game-winning run Saturday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

Wiseman started the rally with a two-out single to centerfield, stole second base and then moved to third after a walk and a hit by pitch. The sophomore outfielder also had an RBI double earlier in the game and lunged to make a tremendous triple-saving catch in the right-centerfield gap before sliding to a halt on the warning track.

Basically, Rhett Wiseman was the star of the show, doing a little bit of everything to help send his team to the championship round…and he did it all on the eve of his 20th birthday (earning him a serenading of “Happy Birthday” from the Vanderbilt faithful as he left the stadium to catch the bus).

After the game, Wiseman talked about the final play of the game and what he saw off the bat and as he ran down the third base line. Effusive in his praise of teammate Tyler Campbell, he said that everyone in the dugout knew he was going to win the game in that situation.

Rhett Wiseman also discussed the wild momentum shifts in this game and how the team has come together at the right time this season because they are picking each other up.
