OMAHA, Neb. — Virginia (52-14) used a three-run fourth inning to advance to the 2014 College World Series championship round with a 4-1 victory over Ole Miss (48-21) Saturday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park.

A rain delay in the second inning Friday night pushed the game to Saturday, but Virginia starter Josh Sporz still came back to pitch the Cavaliers to the title round.

Sporz pitched five total innings, allowing four hits and an unearned run before turning the ball over to the bullpen arms of Artie Lewicki and Nick Howard, who allowed two hits and a walk in four innings of work.

After the game, Sborz talked about pitching back-to-back days after the Friday night rain delay and the momentum swings in the game’s early innings.

Josh Sporz also discussed being a member of the first Virginia squad to play for the national championship and the tension relief it is to have Lewicki and Howard to finish games.
