The Alabama Crimson Tide are looking to move games to Hoover, Alabama for the 2015 season as renovations to Sewell-Thomas Stadium will make the facility unusable for the Crimson Tide.
The initial plans called for Alabama to play around the construction, but it ultimately wasn’t feasible.
“The Hoover Met’s a great facility, the SEC tournament’s been there for years. We’ve got a lot of players from the Birmingham area and a lot of fans from the Birmingham area,” Battle said. “Like anything, you play the hand you’re dealt and you turn what might not be what you prefer into a positive by making the best you can out of it.
“Hopefully we can build excitement in Birmingham, get more fans from a larger area than we can bring here and then hopefully when we return to Tuscaloosa in the following year many of those will continue to come.”
Battle said he first met with representatives about the possibility at last year’s SEC baseball tournament. At that time, though, Alabama was hoping to draw up a schedule that would see it play long stretches of home and away games in accordance with the construction.
