There were six games on the Southern California schedule Tuesday afternoon and evening and five of them came down to the wire with four one-run games and a 9-7 battle down in San Diego. Tuesday’s tight-knit action piggy-backed Monday’s walk-off win for San Diego State

A roundup of all SoCal squads that were in action Tuesday with a photo gallery from Monday’s exiciting San Diego State/Purdue matchup:

Washington State 9, #25 San Diego 7

Two San Diego errors helped Washington State (7-9) take a 5-0 lead in the second inning and Wes Leow recorded his first collegiate hit — blasting a pinch hit three-run homer to right field in the seventh inning that proved to be the game-winner.

The Toreros (14-5) battled back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, but left the bases loaded. With a runner on in the eighth inning, Andrew Daniel knocked a deep that ran out of steam and was caught on the warning track.

Kyle Holder had four hits.

The Toreros had 15 hits with four players recording two-hit performances and Kyle Holder going 4-for-4 with a double, but they couldn’t get the timely hit when needed. Sean Hartnett picked up the win with four scoreless innings of relief for the Cougars.

CSU Bakersfield 3, Cal State Northridge 2

The Matadors (8-14) put the tying and go-ahead runners on base in the ninth inning, but couldn’t complete the late rally against CSU Bakersfield (8-11). Louis Cohen (3.2 IP) and Shay Maltese (1 IP) retired the final 14 Roadrunners in order (with five by strikeout).

The damage was done early by Bakersfield’s Andrew Lojewsky, who hit a two-run homer in the third inning to put the Roadrunners up 3-0. Ryan Raslowsky reached three times for Northridge (1-2, RBI, 2 BB).

Loyola Marymount 4, Long Beach State 3

Ino Patron knocked a two-run homer and Michael Hill doubled home a run in the first inning to give Long Beach State a 3-0 lead before LMU ever batted. It would also be the only runs the Dirtbags scored.

Tanner Donnels drove in three runs.

Tanner Donnels knocked a two-run homer of his own in the first inning and later doubled home another run to tie the game. He finished 2-3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, HBP. Jimmy Jack reached four times, including on a bases loaded hit by pitch that put the Lions ahead for good, but it wasn’t without some great relief pitching in high-pressure situations.

With the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Tim Peabody struck out the side to hold the 4-3 lead for LMU and in the ninth inning Carlos Fuentes got a double play with the bases loaded to end the game and earn the save.

Stony Brook 4, USC 3

USC has lost 9 of 12 since starting 7-0 this season. Stony Brook (6-8) scored three runs in the fifth inning to chase USC starter Brent Wheatley and added an important insurance run in the seventh inning on its way to a 4-3 win.

Timmy Robinson had two hits and drove in all three USC runs, but he grounded out with the tying and go-ahead runs on base to end the game. Stony Brook’s Robert Chavarria was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

#12 Cal State Fullerton 2, UNLV 1

Willie Kuhl had a nasty slider working.

While defense continues to be an issue for Cal State Fullerton (three errors on Tuesday), the Titans (11-7) don’t have any concerns about their pitching. Willie Kuhl (six strikeouts in 2.2 IP) and J.D. Davis combined to strike out the final five UNLV batters as Fullerton took a 2-1 midweek win.

Tanner Pinkston led off the seventh inning with a walk and came around to score on a two-strike single up the middle from Clay Williamson (2-3, 2B, RBI) to push the Titans ahead. Koby Gauna pitched well, but did not get a decision: 5.2 IP, 3 H, UER, BB, 4 K.

UNLV (13-6) starter Kenny Oakley took a tough-luck loss: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 6 K.

Pepperdine 6, UC Irvine 0

Matt Maurer struck out six and didn’t allow a run in six innings pitched to pick up the win as Pepperdine (14-6) shut out UC Irvine 6-0. Hutton Moyer had a two-run double and Bryan Langlois had three hits and scored two runs for the Waves.

The Eaters, who have lost four of five since having their 10-game win streak snapped, got three hits from Grant Palmer while Jerry McClanahan reached three times.

MONDAY
San Diego State 6, Purdue 5 (10 innings)

Michael Cederoth blew his first save since becoming the Aztecs closer, allowing Purdue to tie the game in the eighth inning. But after easy ninth and tenth innings from Cederoth, the offense picked him up and delivered him a W.

After two quick outs, Spencer Thornton walked and Tyler Adkison singled to left field. Brad Haynal knocked a walk-off RBI single through the left side to score Thornton with the winning run. Haynal finishes 3-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI. Thornton and Adkison both reached three times and drove in a run. Purdue’s Jack Picchiotti had three hits and two runs.
