All-American closer David Berg allowed an inherited runner to score in the seventh inning, blew a save in the eighth inning and let two runners reach in the ninth after UCLA (8-7) had retaken the lead on a Christoph Bono RBI single in the top half of the inning, but Berg locked up the 6-5 win with a foul out and a fielder’s choice.

USC (8-6) took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning of the crosstown rivalry matchup that does not count toward Pac-12 standings, but the defense and bullpen quickly blew that lead. Bob Wheatley departed after getting the first two outs and a runner reached on an error, but the Bruins still scored four runs in the frame. Wheatley finished with a solid line: 6.2 IP, 6 H, UER, 2 BB, 2 K.

Neither team played well defensively as UCLA committed four errors and allowed three unearned runs while USC committed two errors and allowed four unearned runs.

Shane Zeile continues to pound out hits for the Bruins. He reached in all five plate appearances, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored while Chris Keck homered in the eighth inning. Ty Moore reached four times, finishing 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBI.
