2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 19. David Berg (UCLA)

David Berg fires.College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 19 on our countdown is junior RHP David Berg from Covina, California where he was a two year letter winner at Bishop Amat High School. As a senior, he went 7-1 with four saves and a 1.05 ERA, logging 59 strikeouts and five walks in 47.0 innings while being used exclusively as a relief pitcher.

As a freshman at UCLA, he made 50 appearances going 5-3 with one save, 63 strikeouts and 17 walks in 74.0 innings. He was named a second-team Freshman All-American by NCBWA and Freshman All-America honors from Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball.

He spent the summer of 2012 with the USA Collegiate National Team pitching in a total of 9.2 inning with a 3.72 ERA while helping the team to a third place finish in the Haarlem Honkbal Tournament.

In 2013, he served as UCLA’s closer pitching a total of 78 innings while having a record of 7-0 with a 0.92 ERA while breaking the NCAA record for saves in a season with 24. He became the first UCLA pitcher to lead the Pac-12 in ERA in back-to-back seasons.

For the second straight summer, Berg played with the USA Collegiate National team appearing in seven games accumulating a record of 3-0 record with a 2.89 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched.
