2014 Top 100 Countdown: 21. James Kaprielian (UCLA)

KaprielianCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 21 on our countdown is UCLA sophomore RHP James Kaprielian (UCLA). He was a three-year varsity baseball letterwinner at Beckman High School (Irvine, Calif.) under head coach Kevin Lavelle where he posted a career record of 33-3 with a 0.96 ERA, 250 strikeouts and 23 complete games. In his senior campaign, he went 12-2 with a 0.84 ERA, striking out 112 batters in 83.1 innings pitched and recording 10 saves. He was selected in the 40th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.

As a freshman, he appeared in 34 games as a reliever. He was named a freshman All-American from Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball after posting a 1.55 ERA and two saves in 40.2 innings pitched. He pitched in the summer with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod Baseball League as he had an ERA of 1.80 in 20 innings pitched, recording 28 strikeouts in five appearances.
