2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 24. Matthew Troupe (Arizona)

mathewtroupeCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 24 on our countdown is Arizona junior RHP Matthew Troupe. The Chaminade College Prep alumnus originally was a highly regarded high school catcher but became a pitcher late in his collegiate career. As a senior, he went 5-2 record and a 1.00 ERA while striking out 91, allowing just 19 walks and limited opponents to a .157 batting average. He was selected in the by the New York Yankees with the 539th overall pick in the 16th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

As a freshman, he pitched in 24 games with a 6-1 record and a 3.47 ERA with a team-leading six saves including making one mid-week start. He was able to lead all UA relievers with 44 strikeouts over 36.1 innings pitched. He was outstanding in the postseason as he helped win the National Championship with the Wildcats. In the postseason, he allowed just one earned run over final 13.2 innings pitched (0.66 ERA), including no earned runs allowed in 4.2 innings pitched over three postseason appearances including two wins.

His sophomore year saw him continue to work out of the bullpen making 29 appearances while going 6-0 with a 3.29 ERA.
