2014 CBD Top 100 Players: 26. Austin Cousino (Kentucky)

CousinoCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 26 on our countdown is Kentucky junior outfielder Austin Cousino. The Dublin, Ohio native attended Dublin Coffman High School where he was an All-American. As a senior, he batted .529 with 17 doubles, 10 homers, 31 RBI and was a perfect 28-for-28 on the base paths. He picked up several awards including Central District, All-Metro Player of the Year, and American Baseball Coaches Association Gold Glove winner.

As a freshman, he had one of the best seasons in the history of the program. He served as the leadoff hitter while starting 62 games. He led the Wildcats with a .319 average (83-for-260) with team-highs in doubles (20), triples (two) and steals (15). He was able to hit nine homers and 41 RBI, owning a 26-39 walk-strikeout ratio. He was a machine getting on base safely in 59 of 62 games while stealing 15-of-16 bases and was hit by 13 pitches. He spent the summer with the USA Collegiate National Team again hitting a team high .351 (13-for-50) with four doubles and five RBI.

His sophomore season saw him start in centerfield for all 55 games. He hit .249 (52-for-209) with 42 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, six homers and 27 RBI. He stole 14 bases in 15 attempts. He also led the SEC in hit by pitches with 21 occurrences. He won the Gold Glove Trophy as the best defensive center fielder in college baseball. He played for the USA Collegiate National Team for the second consecutive summer hitting .273 (18-for-66) in 22 games and 19 starts, with 11 runs, two doubles, three triples, one homer and seven RBI.
