MattImhofWe continue the countdown today with number 43, Cal Poly LHP Matt Imhof. In his sophomore season with the Mustangs, Imhof was once again among the elite arms in the Big West Conference. His success on the mound earned him a spot in the weekend rotation. The 6’5” southpaw posted a 7-3 record in 2013 appearing in 101.2 innings which was good for second on the staff. Imhof managed to hold opponents to a .249 batting average while posting a 2.74 ERA. With a fastball that can reach 94 mph, this left hander is quickly making a name for himself.

The Fremont, CA native attended Mission San Jose High School where he earned second-team All-Mission Valley League Honors two years in a row. As a senior, Imhof posted a 6-4 record in 63.2 innings of work. The southpaw also had 86 strikeouts while compiling a 2.97 ERA under Head coach Steven Griggs. When not on the mound, Imhof helped the Warriors by hitting .438 with 35 hits and 20 RBI as a first baseman.

During the 2013 summer, Imhof made school history when Team USA announced that the rising junior had been the first Cal Poly baseball player to be selected to the Collegiate National Team’s 24-man roster. The talented southpaw was in the running for one of the starting positions on the team and after an impressive performance on June 27th he secured his spot in the rotation. By the end of summer competition, Imhof posted a 3-0 record with an impressive 0.53 ERA in his six appearances, striking out 18 batters in 17 innings on the mound for Team USA.

Imhof returns for the Mustangs in 2014 and will be a prospect to watch as the 2014 MLB draft approaches.
