We continue the countdown today with number 52, Arkansas LHP Colin Poche. In an impressive freshman campaign with the Razorbacks, Poche posted a 3-0 record with a 1.37 ERA. The talented south paw collected 19.2 innings of work, making eight appearances while holding opponents to a .176 batting average. In five starts, Poche improved to a 3-0 record, earning the win against Mississippi Valley State and tying a season high with six strikeouts in four hitless innings.
The Flower Mound, Texas native attended Marcus High School where he was ranked the 59th best prospect in the state of Texas in 2012 by Perfect Game. During his senior season, the 6’3” lefty finished with a 7-3 record with six complete games. Poche set the school single-season record for strikeouts (97) and ERA (0.21). His performance on the field got him ranked as the 489th best recruit in the nation as well as a 5th round selection in the 2012 draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
During the 2013 summer season, Poche competed in the Northwoods League where he pitched for the Wilmar Stingers. The rising sophomore had thirteen appearances with the Stingers including eight starts while posting 6-2 record. In 51.2 IP, Poche managed to put up some impressive numbers posting a 2.26 ERA. The south paw showed great command on the mound collecting 59 strikeouts and only allowing 16 walks. The Texas native was chosen to represent the North Division in the All-Star Game and was recognized as the #1 prospect in the Northwoods league by both Perfect Game and Baseball America.
Despite having a short run in with the law back in January of 2013, Poche looks to move forward and stay focused on the task at hand, which is to bring a winning season to the University of Arkansas in 2014 as he returns to the Razorbacks for his sophomore season.
