Top 100 Countdown: 76. Mike Urbanski (Binghamton)

Mike_UrbanskiWe continue the countdown today with number 76, Binghamton pitcher Mike Urbanski. In his sophomore season with the Bearcats, Urbanski made 16 relief appearances and finished with a 2-1 record. In 19 innings, the 6’4” right- hander gave up only 17 hits and struck out 16 batters, while posting a 4.74 ERA. The 2013 Bearcats staff was far from perfect but did show signs of promise down the stretch as they won the America East Conference Tournament. Urbanski led the team in appearances and his .243 batting average against was good for 5th on the staff.

The Schenectady, N.Y native attended Christian Brother’s Academy where he was a three-year letter winner. As a senior, Urbanski was a conference all-star as well as named to the NABF World Series All-Tournament Team. The talented right handed pitcher not only found success on the ball diamond but also in the classroom as his hard work was acknowledged by earning First Academic honors.

Urbanski spent his 2013 summer with the Amsterdam Mohawks in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball league. The right-hander was the closer for the Mohawks and his selection as the top professional prospect in the PGCBL. Urbanski struck out 40 batters in 30.1 IP with his power fastball accompanied by an above average slider. He went 5-2 with four saves and a 2.67 ERA in 18 appearances to help the Mohawks win their fourth PGCBL championship in five years.

Mike Urbanski returns to Binghamton for his junior campaign and looks to lead the Bearcats to another America East championship. He will also be eligible for the upcoming MLB draft in June.
