OUvWesternMichATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University baseball team announced its 2014 schedule on Monday. The 53-game slate features 23 home games, 24 Mid-American Conference contests and five matchups against teams that competed in the 2013 NCAA Championship.

“I am excited about our upcoming 2014 schedule as it will challenge us early with a trip to Western Carolina and a pair of games against regional caliber teams in UNC-Wilmington and Liberty,” said second-year head coach Rob Smith. “We will also see some exciting midweek match ups with Ohio State and a home game against Pittsburgh who is now in the ACC.”

The Bobcats open the season on Feb. 13 with a three-day series at Western Carolina. The Catamounts finished the 2013 season 39-20 and won the regular season Southern Conference title.

Following Ohio’s trip to Cullowhee, the Bobcats travel to Wilmington, N.C. for the UNCW Tournament, beginning Feb. 21 where they will take on Liberty and UNC-Wilmington.

In 2013, UNCW captured the Colonial Athletic Association regular season crown and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. The Seahawks finished the year with a 38-23 record. Liberty posted 36 wins a year ago, finishing third in the Big South Conference.

From there, the ‘Cats travel to Statesboro, Ga. for a pair of games at Georgia Southern (Feb. 28 and Mar. 2) and one against SIU Edwardsville. Ohio then heads to Greensboro, N.C. for a one-game matchup against UNC Greensboro before opening up a three-game series at Longwood University on Mar. 7-9.

Ohio begins its home slate on Mar. 12 with a game against Marshall at Bob Wren Stadium, followed by a three-game series against St. Bonaventure.

The Bobcats begin MAC play on Mar. 21 at home with a series against Central Michigan.

Ohio will travel to Columbus on April 1 for their first contest against the Buckeyes since 2012. OSU finished the 2013 season 35-23 and earned the No. 2 seed in the Big 10 tournament.

The ‘Cats then play host to Kent State for a three-game series beginning on April 4. The Golden Flashes captured the 2013 regular season crown, but were eliminated in the MAC tournament.

Following road trips to Marshall and Akron, the team will hold an eight-game home stretch during April 22-May 7 facing Morehead University, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo and Pittsburgh, which begins its first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season.

Ohio makes its final road trip of the season as it heads to Bowling Green for a three-game series.

The Bobcats conclude the 2014 season with a three-game series against MAC rival Miami. Ohio’s final series of the year begins on May 15 at Bob Wren Stadium.
