CamGibsonCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today at number 79 with Michigan State outfielder Cam Gibson. In his first season with the Spartans, Gibson fit right in as part of the talented starting nine. In his 40 games started, Gibson collected 53 hits, 17 RBI and 12 stolen bases and hit to a .325 BA. His average was good for 3rd on the team and was a huge contributor to Michigan State’s 33-17 record.

Selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 38th round (No. 1173 overall) of the 2012 draft out of Grosse Point High School, Gibson was a two-time first-team Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 1 all-state selection. His talent on the field was noticed by many and was named a notable player to watch in the Class of 2012 by MichiganBaseballProspects.org. Son of Arizona Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson, Cam looks to pave his own way to professional baseball and so far he seems to be on the right track.

During the 2013 summer season, Gibson spent his time in the Northwoods League with the Battle Creek Bombers. Entering the All-Star game he was ranked fifth in the Northwood League with a .352 batting average. The Michigan native also ranked among the league leaders in hits (sixth with 68), stolen bases (sixth with 22) and runs (tied for ninth with 40). A Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection, Gibson ended the summer season hitting .345 with 76 hits and 26 RBI. Gibson returns to East Lansing for his sophomore season and will continue to make his mark in Spartan history.
