College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today at number 81 with Sacramento State RHP Sutter McLoughlin. During his freshman season with the Hornets, McLoughlin joined designated hitter Chris Lewis as the first freshmen in program history to be All-WAC first team selections. He shattered the single-season program record and led the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) with 17 saves and had just two blown saves all season. The right-hander made 28 appearances which was good for third most in a season in program history. McLoughlin went 1-3 in 38.1 innings pitched with an opponent batting average of only .196.
Played baseball for four years Rio Americano HS where he was awarded Capital Athletic League MVP honors following his junior season and named all-CAL as a sophomore. McLoughlin shined in his junior campaign when he went 7-0 with four complete games in 11 starts and tallied 89 strikeouts against 14 walks and gave up just seven total extra base hits in 60.1 innings. As a senior he went 2-3 in eight starts and 45 innings with a 2.18 ERA, 59 strikeouts and 29 walks.
Sutter McLoughlin was not one of the nine Hornets who represented Sacramento State in summer collegiate baseball leagues; however, he will be heading into the 2014 season with some high expectations, not only for himself but for the entire Hornet squad as well.
