TexasStateBaseball_thumb.jpgSAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Baseball released its 2014 schedule Monday afternoon, and it’s the competitive, exciting schedule that Texas State fans have come to expect from Head Coach Ty Harrington and his team. The schedule includes highlight games against Rice, Texas, Texas A&M, Houston, Baylor, Washington State, UC Riverside and Valparaiso in addition to conference action in the Sun Belt Conference, the sixth rated baseball conference in all of collegiate baseball in 2013.

In addition to those exciting match-ups, the Bobcats will host Michigan, Washington and Air Force for the Texas State Baseball Invitational opening weekend Feb. 14-16 at Bobcat Ballpark. For the full 2014 schedule, click here.

“This schedule ranks as one of the most exciting schedules ever for Texas State,” said Harrington. “Our conference competition has increased with the move to the Sun Belt and our non-conference schedule is what Texas State fans enjoy and appreciate. That’s why we’re in the top 50 programs in attendance.”

After opening weekend, the Bobcats will travel to Houston on Feb. 18 for the team’s first midweek game of the season against Rice, a team ranked as high as 19th in preseason polls and finished last season 25th in RPI. Texas State will follow that with a home series Feb. 21-23 against UC Riverside, a team in the competitive Big West Conference that finished fifth in conference rankings last year.

Former Southland rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be next up with a midweek game followed by a series against Wagner and a midweek game against Valparaiso to cap an eight-game home stand from Feb. 21-March 5 for Texas State. In fact, the Bobcats will play 11 of the team’s first 12 games in San Marcos.

The first road series for Texas State will be at Washington State, the team’s second opponent from the Pac-12, the second highest rated conference in 2013, March 7-9.

The Bobcats will return home to host local rival and perennial power Texas on March 11 before the team’s first Sun Belt series against UT Arlington March 14-16. After that, Rice will travel to San Marcos March 18 for the second meeting of the season between the two teams.

Then the Bobcats will take to the road for the team’s longest road trip of the season, a seven-game swing that will see Texas State play two conference series against Western Kentucky and Arkansas State with a midweek game against Texas in the middle from March 21-30.

After that, Texas State will renew the I-35 Rivalry when the Bobcats host UTSA April 1 followed by a home conference series April 4-6 against South Alabama, a team ranked 24th by Baseball America in preseason polls and the defending Sun Belt Champion.

At the conclusion of that tough series, the Bobcats will travel back to Houston, but this time to face the Houston Cougars on April 8 followed by a road conference series in Monroe, La. April 11-13 against ULM. Before returning home to host conference opponent Georgia State April 18-20, the Bobcats will head to San Antonio for an April 15 game against UTSA.

Texas State will face its second Big 12 opponent twice the week after that with back-to-back games against Baylor in Waco on April 22 and in San Marcos April 23.

The Bobcats will return to the road for a conference series against the Sun Belt’s third-place team in 2013, Louisiana, on April 25-27, and head to College Station for a game against Texas A&M April 29.

Troy, the second place team in the Sun Belt last season, will travel to San Marcos for a conference series May 2-4 followed by UALR May 9-11.

From there, Texas State will cap the end of the regular season with a midweek game at Texas and a road conference series at UT Arlington before traveling to Mobile, Ala. for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament April 21-25.
