College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2014 College Baseball season by checking in on the top 100 players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today at number 91with Arizona State LHP pitcher Brett Lilek. In his freshman campaign with the Sun Devils, Lilek made 10 appearances, including one start where he threw a season-high five innings and struck out a season-high six in his first career start, a win over then No. 2 Arkansas. He earned Scholar Baller honors in spring of 2013 which recognizes exceptional academic performance.

Lilek is used to having great success on the ball field. At Marion Catholic High School he lettered four years in baseball and one in basketball. After being named team captain for all four years, Lilek earned All-State, All-Area and All-Conference honors. He was also named player of the year and was a Preseason All-American. His efforts got him drafted in the 37th round by the Seattle Mariners.

The south paw spent this past summer playing for the Newport Gulls in the NECBL where he went 4-2 with 1.64 ERA. In his 7 appearances with the Gulls this Illinois native had 26 strikeouts in 27.1 IP and was one of only two pitchers to throw a complete game for the Gulls during the 2013 season.

Brett Lilek returns for his sophomore year as he looks to make an impact once again as part of the Sun Devils staff.
