OralRobertsTULSA, Okla. – Head Coach Ryan Folmar announced the Oral Roberts University 2014 baseball schedule on Thursday, highlighted by home games against four NCAA tournament teams from last season.

“We are once again very excited to be taking on a challenging schedule,” said coach Folmar. “We have an outstanding non-conference schedule with a good balance of home series.”

The schedule features non-conference games against Wichita State on March 4, Oklahoma on March 25 and Oklahoma State on April 22, three teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2013. ORU will also face all three opponents on the road as well, facing the Sooners on March 8, the Shockers on April 15 and the Cowboys on May 13.

Sam Houston State, who received an at-large bid to the tournament, visits J.L. Johnson Stadium for a three-game Southland Conference set starting on April 4. Central Arkansas, which earned the Southland’s automatic bid last season, will host the Golden Eagles for a conference series beginning on May 2.

ORU went 5-1 during regular season action against SHSU and UCA in 2013.

For the second straight season, the Golden Eagles start the season with a three-game series at home as Southeast Missouri State visits on Valentine’s Day weekend. Other home non-conference series include four games against Harvard (Feb. 25-27) and two games against new SLC member Incarnate Word (March 18-19) that will not count toward the conference standings.

Two non-conference road series are featured on the schedule as the Golden Eagles travel to Texas Tech (Feb. 21-23) and Dallas Baptist (March 7-9). Other non-conference dates include three contests against Missouri State, two at home (Feb. 25, April 2) and one in Springfield, Mo., on May 6, followed by a showdown at UALR on May 7.

“We will be tested early with tough road trips to Texas Tech and Dallas Baptist, surrounded with home series against SEMO and Harvard,” Folmar said. “We are very fortunate to continue to have outstanding midweek trips tips that are player and fan-friendly. Also, our conference continues to improve on the national stage as Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas played well in their NCAA regional appearances.”

The Southland season gets started on March 14 as Northwestern State visits ORU for the start of a three-game series. The Golden Eagles host new members Houston Baptist (April 17-19) and Abilene Christian (May 9-10), while Lamar comes to town on for the final series of the season starting on May 15.

The Golden Eagles head to Louisiana on consecutive weekends as they make their first trips to McNeese State (March 21-23) and Nicholls State (March 28-30). Due to the additions of new conference members, ORU will return to Stephen F. Austin (April 11-13) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (April 25-27) for the second time in as many seasons.

The 2014 edition of the Southland Conference Tournament is scheduled to begin on May 21 in Conway, Ark.

I noticed they sure don’t have South Dakota State in there anymore. They had difficulty with South Dakota State. Quite a rivalry. They won their share of games against South Dakota State University, but it wasn’t easy for them. Both have a solid teams and developing very quickly. I actually think South Dakota State University misses playing them… Now they are with the Southland conference. ORU has some great talent. South Dakota State University has the same. Fact, South Dakota State University has some great left-hand bats that Oral Roberts found difficult to contain. I am more than sure, the rivalry will continue next year, with some games.
