The rain held out just long enough at Fiondella Field on Thursday, Sept. 8th for the Hawks to showcase their talent in front of Major League scouts. “It’s a great opportunity for our guys to get on the radar early”, said Head coach Justin Blood. After finishing 17-36 in the 2013 campaign, the Hawks look to up their game and get on a winning track.

Top 5 Prospects

Aaron Wilson- Soph. MIF- 6’0 180 lbs from Windsor, CT
This speedy infielder shows raw talent that has the potential of turning into next level stuff. Posting the fastest 60 yard time of the day, Wilson was able to record a time of 6.6. With his speed and opposite field approach at the plate, Wilson can put pressure on the defense and turn routine plays into something more difficult. Defensively, he has great range with an average arm and talent to make the outstanding play. The energy he brings to the diamond will make him a player to watch in the 2014 season.

Trey Stover- Junior SS- 5’10 175 lbs from Lock Haven, PA
This sure handed shortstop played and started in 50 games last season and it shows. His confidence at the position can only come from daily repetitions. Defensively, Stover can be flashy at times but his talented hands allow him to get away with a sometimes unorthodox fielding approach. During ground balls, Stover showed great athleticism, quick hands and good baseball sense. At the plate he showed a consistent line drive swing and the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Trey will definitely be a player to watch as he takes the field for the Hawks in 2014.

Chris DelDebbio- Soph. OF- 6’1 180lbs from Danbury, CT
This young outfielder can to cover a great distance on the field and showed off his speed by posting a 60 yard dash time of 6.8. DelDebbio showed great footwork in the outfield accompanied by a strong and accurate arm. He showed good instincts and reads on fly balls and was able to cut off many of the gap shots hit during batting practice. DelDebbio has a great outfield frame and with hard work and time has the potential to grow into the frame he has. Look for him to have a solid sophomore campaign.

Brian Hunter- Senior RHP- 6’3 210lbs from Port Jeff Station, NY
This hard throwing right hander brings experience to the Hawks pitching staff. With a fastball that ranges from 87-90 and breaking stuff that sits low 80’s, Hunter has found success throughout his career at Hartford. With the ability to command both sides of the plate and confidently throw his breaking pitches in any count, Hunter has become a standout. His short arm delivery allows him to hide the ball very well and add more rotation to the ball which results in a sharper break on his slider. Hunter’s plus stuff will make him a player to watch as he enters his senior season.

Sean Newcomb- Junior LHP- 6’5 240lbs from Middleboro, MA
Newcomb has a great pitcher build with a very promising future. This 6’5 lefty was lighting up the radar gun with a fastball that sat at 92 and at one point touched 94. His overpowering velocity is a huge tool which gives him the opportunity to pitch out of tough spots. Newcomb’s confidence and mound presence is that of a seasoned veteran and his smooth mechanics almost seem effortless. With a little work on his secondary pitches Sean Newcomb has the potential to become a top prospect as he enters his draft year this season with the Hawks.
