While college baseball season might be over, College Baseball Daily is keeping you covered by counting down the Top 10 Stadiums in the country. Each day we’ll have a different stadium, including the history and fun facts, until we reach the number one stadium in all of college baseball. Checking in at number 6 today is South Carolina’s Carolina Stadium.
Another SEC stadium to make the list, Carolina Stadium boasts a pretty nice view for itself. Located on the banks of the Congaree River, the Gamecocks have called Carolina Stadium their home since 2009 and have posted an extraordinary record of 155-32, which equates to a .829 win percentage, at home. The team has also posted an undefeated NCAA record of 16-0, and Carolina Stadium has hosted four consecutive NCAA Regional Tournaments and two Super Regionals. In order to honor the 2010 and 2011 championship seasons the Gamecocks had, there is a mural and trophy case located on the backside of the center field wall. This past season, the Gamecocks averaged 7,445 fans per game, placing them fifth in all Division I teams; their record crowd of 8,242 was back in May 2010 when Florida came to town. The Gamecocks also have been known to sellout many home games, but with their sparkling reputation as a baseball team should never be a problem. The stadium replaces Sarge Frye Field, which served as the model for the new stadiums dimensions in center field and down the right and left field lines. As many stadiums have, Carolina Stadium includes a picnic terrace that can accommodate 120 fans down the left field line and a scoreboard that towers over the field at 86 feet.
