kingsmore_stadium3_1000While college baseball season might be over, College Baseball Daily is keeping you covered by counting down the Top 10 Stadiums in the country. Each day we’ll have a different stadium, including the history and fun facts, until we reach the number one stadium in all of college baseball. Checking in at number 7 today is Clemson’s Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Just one of two ACC parks to make this list, Doug Kingsmore Stadium definitely has the character and atmosphere that is comparable to other stadiums on this list. Since opening in 1970, Doug Kingsmore Stadium (formerly known as Beautiful Tiger Stadium) has been a leader in attendance. For the past 15 season, Clemson has held a top 20 spot in the attendance records for all of Division I baseball, with 2013 showing an average 4,751 fans per home game, which is seventh; a record crowd was recorded in March 2004 against in-state rival South Carolina. The stadium was renovated in 2002 to allow for modern amenities such as a new video board, chairback seats, a large press box, and a “Super-Sopper,” which removes water from the field during a rainout. Players were also given extra room in the dugouts and four batting cages past the right field fence. The stadium was later renamed after former Clemson player Doug Kingsmore gave $1 million towards the renovation of the field. Doug Kingsmore Stadium has also been home to three ACC tournaments, 11 Regionals, and four Super Regionals. The Tigers have posted a .810 winning percentage at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, as well as a 39-8 total NCAA Tournament game record; since the format was changed in 1999, the Tigers have gone 25-2 in tournament games played at home. Fun fact: The Tigers have had a winning season in each of the 43 seasons they’ve been playing at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, and since Jack Leggett took over the team in 1994, the Tigers are 514-146 at home.
