2013 Charlottesville NCAA Regional

VirginiaBaseballFeaturedThe Virginia Cavaliers will be hosting a regional that starts on Friday with number 2 seeded UNC-Wilmington, number 3 seeded Elon, and fourth seeded Army.

Virginia enters with a 47-10 overall record while going 22-8 in ACC play. The Cavs offense is led by Mike Papi who hit .400 with six homers and leading the team with 54 RBI. Brandon Cogswell is second on the team with a .346 average while leading the team with 12 stolen bases in 17 attempts. Scott Silverstein leads the pitching staff with a 9-1 overall record with a 3.07 ERA. Kyle Crockett leads the bullpen with 10 saves in 26 appearances while going 4-1 with a 1.81 ERA.

UNC-Wilmington enters with a 37-21 overall record and an 18-8 mark in CAA play. Leading the team in hitting is Michael Bass who is hitting .387 with four homers and 35 RBI. Ryan LaGrange is scond on the team with a .372 batting average with five homers and 37 RBI. The pitching staff is being led by Jordan Ramsey who has an unimpressive record of 6-6 but leads the team with a 2.36 ERA in 16 appearances including 15 starts. Kelly Secrest leads the team with seven saves while going 3-1 with a 3.73 ERA.

Elon heads into the NCAA Tournament with a 32-28 overall record after sweeping through the Southern Conference Tournament. The offensive attack for the Phoenix is led by Sebastian Gomez who is hitting .332 with three homers and 42 RBI while stealing eleven bases. Ryan Kinsella is second on the team with a .329 homers and leading the team with 20 homers and 75 RBI. Kyle Webb is the top starting pitcher with a 7-3 record with a 3.66 ERA. Nate Young leads the team with seven saves while going 2-1 with a 5.03 ERA.

Army heads to the Charlottesville, Virginia with a 29-21 overall record and a record of 11-9 in the Patriot League. Patrick Mescher is the top hitter with a .345 batting average while hitting two homers and driving in a team high 40 runs. Mark McCants (.315) and Jacob Page (.314) are the only two other hitters over .300. Chris Rowley is the Black Knights number 1 pitcher with a 9-3 record and a 2.68 ERA in 13 starts on the year. He has tossed a team high six complete games but many of those were only seven innings long. Gunnar Carroll leads the Black Knights with four saves but has a 3-4 record with a 5.66 ERA.
