America East Conference Tournament Game 6: Maine stays alive

img_8632Lowell, MA—(1) Maine defeated (2) Binghamton with a 6-1 win in game six to stay alive in the America East Conference tournament. The game had a 36 minute delay in the bottom of the fifth inning due to rain. Tommy Lawrence was on the hill to start for Maine giving up eight hits for one run through five and one third innings after pitching a complete game two-hitter on day one of the tournament on Wednesday. DJ Voisine came in to relieve Lawrence and was perfect over the last three and two thirds innings while picking up the save. Key players included: Alex Calbick (2 for 4) scoring a run, Eric White (2 for 4) and Brian Doran (2 for 4) both scored a run and picked up one RBI, along with Troy Black (3 for 4) who also drove in a run.

Starting on the mound for Binghamton was Jay Lynch who gave up 11 hits for six runs through all eight innings. John Howell (1 for 4) scored the Bear Cats only run while David Schanz (2 for 5) and Jake Thomas (2 for 3) hit well. Zach Blanden (1 for 5) picked up the only RBI for Binghamton.

With this win Maine forces a winner take all championship game against Binghamton at 3:00pm on day four of the America East Conference tournament.

Gutsy move by Coach Trimper to start Lawrence today. So very glad it paid off. He certainly is a bulldog out there on the mound.

Yeah, I think he will be drafted and prob won’t be back for 2014. Mike Connolly might also get drafted. Conn is up for the John Olerud Award. Our full time catcher & starting pitcher, quite a combo! Mike Fransoso might get drafted too but he’s a senior. He’s All Time Top-10 in most offensive stats at UMaine.

I love Fransoso’s game and I personally never saw Connolly pitch…
