Manchester, NH—(1)Wilmington (Del.) eliminated (4)Southern New Hampshire University with a 2-1 win in the first game of the fourth and final day at the D-2 NE Regional. Rob Gore started on the hill for the Wildcats giving up one hit and no runs through his six innings of work before being relieved by Jarrett Shaffer who also gave up one hit and no runs in the seventh inning. Tyler Fries came into the game for the Wildcats to start the eighth inning not giving up any runs or hits. Nick Marics finished the game allowing a Homerun in the ninth inning that tied it up, but finished strong not giving up any more hit or runs. Josh Hampton (1 for 5) played well for Wilmington hitting the game winning homerun in the tenth inning and scoring both of the team’s runs, as well as with Sam Giones (2 for 4) who picked up an RBI.

Tyler Gauthier was on the mound for the Penmen through five and two thirds innings giving up five hits and one run before Alex Powers came in to finish the game allowing two hits and one run, that being the game winning homerun in the tenth inning. Al Stanton (1 for 3) played well for Southern New Hampshire University hitting the game tying homerun in the ninth inning, as well as Andy Lalli (1 for 3), and Riley Palmer (1 for 3) resulting in all three hits for the Penmen.

The Wildcats are now set to take on (6)Franklin Pierce in the championship game.

Franklin Pierce wins the regional

(6)Franklin Pierce eliminated (1)Wilmington (Del.) 5-1 to win the D-2 NE Regional championship. Kevin McGowan started on the mound for the Ravens allowing one hit and no runs through his two innings before Ryan Leach came in giving up three hits for one run through six innings of play. Joe Flynn finished the game on the mound for the Ravens not giving up a hit or run in the ninth inning. Zach Mathieu (2 for 4) hit the ball well for the Ravens and scored one run with Matt Walsh (1 for 4), Marty Dunlap (1 for 4), John Razzino (1 for 3), and Justin Brock (1 for 3) all picking up an RBI. Razzino, Dan Kemp (1 for 3), Ryan Boswell (0 for 0), and Matthew O’Herron (1 for 3) all scored a run as well.

Dave Hatt started the game on the hill for the Wildcats giving up two hits for no runs through three innings until being relieved by Tim Racek who gave up three hits for two runs through his one inning of play. Peter Monahan pitched one and two thirds innings giving up three hits and two runs with Jarrett Shaffer finishing the game for the Wildcats giving up one hit and one run in the last two and one third innings of play. Hitting was a struggle for the Wildcats with Jordan Johnson (1 for 4), Jonathan Rodriguez (1 for 4), Brandon Payne (1 for 4), and Sam Giones (1 for 3) picking up their only four hits of the game. Payne scored the only run and Mike Annone (0 for 2) picked up their only RBI. Coach Brian August got tossed between the top and bottom of the seventh inning.

With this win the Franklin Pierce Ravens become the D-2 NE Regional Champions with Pitcher Trevor Graham earning tournament MVP along with making the all-tournament team.

Awesome win Ravens! Thanks for all the updates… couldn’t make it out to see all the games this weekend.
