MidMajorLogo2012Louisville (42-10 overall; 5-0 week) slides back into the top spot after a perfect 5-0 week and have won 12 in a row. The Cardinals opened the week with 4-0 win at Eastern Kentucky Tuesday and a 4-3 win over Indiana Wednesday. In Big East play the Cardinals traveled to UCONN and allowed only 1 run all weekend in their 3 game sweep winning 8-0, 6-0 and 3-1.

Good Weeks

  • South Alabama (39-14 overall; 3-1 week)-The Jaguars picked up a nice 9-0 non conference win over SE Louisiana Tuesday before traveling to Louisiana and taking 2 of 3 from the Ragin’ Cajuns, winning 9-6 Friday, 9-5 Saturday and lost Sunday 17-7. South Alabama now has a 1 game lead over 2nd place Troy and hosts the Trojans in next weekend’s regular season final series.

  • Sam Houston St (33-18 overall; 2-1 week)-The Bearkats won 2 of 3 at SE Louisiana in SLC play and have a 2 game lead on 2nd place Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

  • UNCW (36-16 overall; 2-2 week)-The Seahawks opened the week with a 7-2 loss at NC State before taking 2 of 3 from William & Mary in the CAA series of the year. UNCW won game one 7-2 behind Jr LHP Mat Batts 5th CG of year and William & Mary evened the series with a 5-1 win Friday. UNCW used a 6 run btm 8th on Saturday on way to a 11-4 win and series win. With the series win UNCW is 2.5 games up on William & Mary and clinched atleast top 2 seed and first round bye in CAA tourney.

  • Florida Gulf Coast (34-17 overall; 4-1 week)-The Eagles have won 12 of 13 including 2 of 3 at North Florida this weekend. With the series win FGCU is tied with UNF for 2nd place in A-Sun at 16-8 with both clubs one game behind first place Mercer.

  • Western Carolina (36-17 overall; 3-0 week)-The Catamounts have gone 19-2 since April 6th, won 14 SoCon games in row and won 9 in a row overall on route to their first regular season Southern Conference title since 2007 with their series sweep of Wofford.

  • Florida Atlantic (31-20 overall; 3-1 week)-The Owls had fallen off the bubble after losing 3 Sun Belt series in row, may have gotten back into the mix with a big road series sweep at Western Kentucky (7-2, 10-3 and 12-6). Before traveling to WKU the Owls lost 7-1 at Florida on Tuesday.

  • Pittsburgh (40-11 overall; 4-0 week)-The Panthers beat Ohio 6-5 Wednesday and swept Villanova in Big East play. Pitt is now alone in first place with a 1 game lead over Louisville and travels to Louisville in the final regular season weekend.

  • Creighton (28-14 overall; 3-1 week)-The Blue Jays got back into the MVC and At Large race after taking 2 of 3 at 1st place Wichita St. Creighton is now in 3rd place 2.5 games behind Wichita St won the series opener 6-5 and won the series with a 3-1 win in game 2 Saturday. With a RPI#29 (www.warrennolan.com) the Camels are in excellent position for a postseason bid with just one regular season weekend left.

  • Seton Hall (33-16 overall; 3-0 week)-The Pirates have won 12 in a row including an impressive sweep of South Florida, who started the week tied for 1st, in Big East play this weekend. The sweep puts Seton Hall in 3rd place 2 games behind 1st place Pittsburgh and 1 game behind 2nd place Louisville. The Pirates have put themselves in pretty good position for an NCAA berth with a RPI#33.

Bad Weeks

  • Gonzaga (32-16-1 overall; 1-2 week)-The Bulldogs who already clinched the WCC regular season title hosted Appalachian St and lost 2 of 3 to the Mountaineers. Gonzaga won game one 4-0 behind All American LHP Marco Gonzales (9 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K) CG shutout but dropped the final two games 6-2 and 13-3.

  • Notre Dame (29-21 overall; 1-2 week)-The Irish continued to struggle in Big East play losing 2 of 3 at St John’s. With the series loss ND is now in 7th place in the Big East and should have to win the Big East tourney to get in a regional.

Ohio St is 1-5 into their brutal 9 game home stand to end the season. They gonna need to take 2 of 3 from Indiana to get back in atlarge consideration in my opinion but my opinion doesnt have much weight with the NCAA committee. LOL
