MidMajorLogo2012Congratulations to Columbia (26-19) who earned the first NCAA bid of 2013 upsetting Dartmouth in the Ivy League Championship Series Saturday sweeping the doubleheader winning 6-5 and 12-5.

#1 Mercer (36-12 overall; 0-0 week) had the week off for finals and remains in the top spot……..Louisville (37-10 overall; 4-0 week) stays at #2 with 4 wins to extend their win streak to 7 games. The Cardinals beat Western Kentucky 6-2 Tuesday and swept their Big East series at Villanova by scores of 6-0, 6-5, and 6-2.

 Good Weeks

  • South Alabama (36-13 overall; 2-1 week)-The Jaguars worked their magic once again in week 12 winning 2 of 3 from Middle Tennessee St in Sun Belt play. Friday’s opener was suspended in the top 14th with MTSU having scored 2 runs in the top of 14th. When the game resumed Saturday USA was able to plate 3 runs without a hit to win 12-11. Game 2 USA also walked off with a 3-2 win in 10 innings to take the series before MTSU would take Sunday’s game 6-5.
  • Coastal Carolina (29-18 overall; 2-1 week)-The Chanticleers entered the week on the NCAA bubble and traveled to Georgia Tech for a great opportunity to add to their resume. Rain forced the teams to play a double header Friday where GT won the opener 4-2 but Coastal was able to come away with split with a 7-4 win. The teams had to wait till Sunday for game 3 where Coastal scored 7 runs in the top of 7th and held on for 12-8 win and take the series.
  • Sam Houston St (31-17 overall; 4-0 week)-The Bearkats extended their win streak to 9 games winning 2-1 at Texas San Antonio Tuesday and sweeping Nicholls St in their Southland series. Sam Houston St now sits alone in 1st place at (15-6) two games ahead of SE Louisiana, Texas A&M CC and Oral Roberts. The Bearkats travel to SE Louisiana this week for big SLC series.
  • Florida Gulf Coast (30-16 overall; 5-0 week)-The Eagles had a perfect 5-0 week extending their win streak to 8 games taking a double header at Florida International on Wednesday by scores of 8-6 and 10-4 before sweeping Jacksonville in A-Sun play. With the series sweep the Eagles are in 3rd place in A-Sun 1 game behind 1st place Mercer and North Florida.
  • Western Carolina (33-17 overall; 3-0 week)-The Catamounts have won 6 in row and 14 of 15. WCU opened the week with a 9-3 win at Kennesaw St Wednesday before hosting OVC leading Tennessee Tech for a 2 game weekend series winning 18-7 on Friday and 6-1 on Saturday.
  • Troy (35-12 overall; 3-0 week)-The Trojans have won 11 of 12 including sweeping Florida International in Sun Belt play this weekend by the scores of 11-5, 14-3 and 3-1.

Bad Weeks

  • Notre Dame (28-19 overall; 2-3 week)-The Irish picked up a 7-3 win at Central Michigan Tuesday followed by a 12-6 loss to Eastern Michigan Wednesday in mid week action. Notre Dame continued to struggle in Big East play as the hosted 1st place South Florida with USF taking the first two games of weekend by the scores of 8-2 and 4-3. Notre Dame was able to salvaging a game with a 10-1 win Sunday. Despite a very good RPI#34 the Irish may be on the wrong side of the bubble sitting in 6th place in the Big East two games behind 5th place Rutgers and three behind 4th place Seton Hall.
  • Pepperdine (23-20 overall; 1-3)-The Waves started the week with a 9-5 win over USC Tuesday and a nice 5-3 win over Cal Poly Wednesday only to get swept at San Francisco in WCC play.
  • Florida Atlantic (28-19 overall; 1-2 week)-Three weeks ago the Owls sat in great position in the A-Sun and seemed like a lock for a NCAA bid. However FAU has lost its last three Sun Belt series after losing 2 of 3 at home to Arkansas Little Rock over the weekend. The Owls started the week with RPI#36 and with the series loss it fell 20 spots to #56 putting themselves on the wrong side of the bubble also.
  • Creighton (25-13 overall; 1-3 week)-The Blue Jays lost 6-3 to Kansas St on Tuesday and lost 2 of 3 at Illinois St in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Enter Top 25

  • San Francisco (28-19 overall; 5-0 week)-The Dons are making a late run at a NCAA bid winning 7 of 8 including 2 of 3 at San Diego last week and sweeping Pepperdine this week to make their 2013 debut in the rankings at #19. San Francisco started the week out with an 8-2 win at San Diego St Monday and a 4-2 win vs San Jose St Tuesday before sweeping Pepperdine. With the sweep the Dons are alone in 2nd place in the WCC at (14-7) 2 ½ games behind first place Gonzaga and 2 games ahead of 3rd place San Diego.
  • South Florida (31-16 overall; 2-1 week)-The Bulls have won 17 of 19 games to put themselves in position for a NCAA berth and enter the rankings at #22. USF traveled to South Bend and won 2 of 3 from the Irish in Big East play. In Fridays opener USF put up 6 runs in the top of the 19th inning for an 8-2 win and clinched the series with a 4-3 win Saturday. Notre Dame was able to win one game with a 10-1 win Sunday. South Florida is tied for 1st place with Pittsburgh at 15-3 in the Big East and holds the tiebreaker over Pitt after sweeping the Panthers April 5th-7th.
  • Seton Hall (30-16 overall; 4-0 week)-Since starting the season 0-10 the Pirates have gone 30-6 including their current 9 game (8 of games on the road) win streak and having won 13 of 15. This week the Pirates won 13-5 at Saint Peter’s Tuesday and swept Big East series at Cincinnati and enter this week’s rankings at #25.

Dropped out

  • #12-Missouri St (27-16 overall; 0-4 week)-The Bears dropped all 4 games they played this week losing 6-3 at Arkansas Tuesday before being swept at home by Wichita St in MVC play. Missouri St has not beaten a team that is currently above .500 since a 8-3 win at Illinois St Sunday March 31st and only has 4 wins over teams above .500 all year.
  • #19-Lamar (33-15 overall; 0-4 week)-The Cardinals opened the week with a 6-1 loss at Rice Wednesday and were swept at home by Oral Roberts in SLC play dropping from a tie for 1st to 5th place in the Southland.
  • #20 Central Arkansas (32-13 overall; 1-2 week)-The Bears lost 2 of 3 at home to SE Louisiana and now are in 7th place at 11-10 in the Southland.

Lets hear it boys.

Saw this on twitter earlier…Ohio State’s final 9 games are at home vs Ga Tech (2), Oregon (3), Louisville (1), and indiana (3). Five of those games will be televised live on the B10 network.

The first game vs Ga Tech is on tomorrow (5-7) @ 7 EST. Thanks to the BTN, i’ve grown quite fond of B10 baseball, and i’m pretty pumped they’re gonna have some interesting games on down the stretch. Thought i’d share this info..figured y’all were like me and watched any college game on the tele you could find.

Here are the times for all the other OSU games on the BTN

5-7 vs Ga Tech 7 est

5-10 vs Oregon 7 est

5-14 vs Louisville 630 est

5-17 vs Indiana 630 est

5-18 vs Indiana 4 est

Damn I did not see that. Their fate is pretty simple. According to http://www.boydsworld.com RPI needs report if they go 4-5 they will be inside 45 and if go 5-4 they be inside 32. So 5-4 or better they should be in and 4-5 or worse big bubble. I’m gonna say they go 3-6 or worse

kniveschau May 9, 2013 - 7:39 pm

Even with a 3-6 record during this stretch, there will be some strong RPIs in the B10 tourney field this year, and they may slip back into at large territory with a few wins. I’ve been impressed with the level of play in the B10 since i’ve started watching a couple years ago. The entire B10 tourney will be broadcast again and it’s been really fun to watch the past couple years. The only problem is that it will be held at Target Field this time…the atmosphere won’t be as good i’m afraid.

AmK32 May 11, 2013 - 11:31 pm

Your probably right.

Been able to watch few games on BTN. Watched Michigan St at Iowa a little bit tonight and they did not look really good. Neither team did much maybe just bad game. Just looked MSU up and it says they are 7-6 vs top 50. That will be hard to ignore come tourney time though but so will their current 7th place position and same with Illinois in 6th.

The Big 10 could very easily be a one bid league right now. I dont see how Illinois and MSU can get an atlarge down so far in the Big 10 standings. Nebraska is in RPI range but below .500 so they done and Indiana is a lock but other than that? Ohio St is at #59 according to http://www.warrennolan.com so they probably on the wrong side of bubble.

Here are a few images from Wednesday game Western Carolina at Kennesaw St.
