lebel_journalsHello Everyone,

Rhody Baseball is on the road again. We are currently traveling in a van, captained by Sports Information Director Jodi Pontbriand, on our way to Johnson City, TN for a two-game set against East Tennessee State. Jodi has been working at URI for seven years now and is a true professional at what she does. She’s also responsible for setting me up with this blog on CBD, and for that I would like thank her.

About half of the guys riding in our van right now are seniors. Throughout the rest of this post, I am going to do a little Q&A with each of them to give readers a better sense of what these guys are like…

Pat Fortunato – SR – Infielder
ML: Pat, how do you feel about the outlook for the remainder of the Rhody Baseball season?
PF: Well, I think that – with the competition we have faced over the past three weeks – we should be ready to compete at a high level in our remaining games.
ML: What do you think is going to be the key to our success?
PF: I guess just what our program is based on: pitching, speed and defense. If everyone plays to their potential, we should be able accomplish a lot.

Bobby Dean – SR – Pitcher
ML: Bobby, you’ve had quite a bit of success on the bump with year. What do you think has helped you succeed so far?
BD: Just trusting my stuff, and trusting that the guys behind me will have my back.
ML: How does it feel to have turned 23 years of age last month?
BD: It feels weird because I am now five years older than some of the freshman.

Mike Bradstreet – SR – Pitcher
ML: First, off congrats on earning A-10 Pitcher of the Week and Northeast Region Pitcher of the Week honors for College Baseball Insider. How did it feel to have such a dominant performance last week against Ohio?
MB: I was just pumped that something good started to get going.
ML: You took a no-hitter into the 7th inning. At any point were you thinking of tossing a no-no?
MB: The entire time.

Rob Curran – SR – Pitcher
ML: How do you feel about the baseball rumor that that lefty pitchers like yourself tend to be a little bit “out there”?
RC: I mean, with the guys we have on this team, you can’t really argue that.
ML: What is this lefty swag that you all talk about?
RC: It’s just the swagger that lefties have, an infinite amount.

Some of the best memories from college baseball happen on the road. I know this group of guys has a few more left, both on and off the field.

Until Next Time,
Mike Le Bel
