CBD Photo Gallery: Fullerton Bounces Back With 11-4 Victory

Matt Chapman scores.LOS ANGELES — No. 10 Cal State Fullerton rebounded from back-to-back losses with an 11-4 shellacking of USC Wednesday night at Dedeaux Field.

The Titans (11-2) put up a season-high 15 hits and 11 runs, eight of which came in the first two innings, as they dismissed USC (6-6) early and never looked back. Sophomore starter Koby Gauna pitched five scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing only three hits to move to 2-0 this season.

Anthony Hutting and Michael Lorenzen each had three hits and drove in three runs before being removed, along with several of the other starters, by the sixth inning. Hutting hit a two-run homer — his third home run of the season — in his final at bat.

Carlos Lopez had two doubles, scored two runs and had an RBI. Chad Wallach added two hits and two RBI. For the Trojans, Kevin Swick had doubled twice, finishing 3-for-4 with a walk. Greg Zebrack and Timmy Robinson both had multi-hit games as well. Robinson broke out of the 2-for-25 slump that has highlighted his freshman season.

The two teams combined to use 13 pitchers as the game turned into a ‘Johnny Wholestaff’ outing after Fullerton jumped out to a 10-0 lead through four innings.
