CBD Photo Gallery: #17 Fullerton Takes Opener 8-2 Against #14 Oregon

Jake Reed fires home.FULLERTON, Calif. — No. 17 Cal State Fullerton remained undefeated beating No. 14 Oregon 8-2 Friday night at Goodwin Field behind a fantastic performance by freshman Thomas Eshelman.

The right-hander struck out six Ducks (7-2) while allowing only four hits in his first collegiate complete game.

Oregon got on the board first with a run in the fourth inning on a Ryon Healy RBI double, but Fullerton (9-0) answered back when Anthony Hutting singled home a run in the bottom half of the frame.

Fullerton took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning. After Chad Wallach led off with a single, the Titans scored three runs without the benefit of a hit, taking advantage of two walks, two wild pitches and a passed ball.

The Titans tacked on four unearned runs in the next inning thanks to a two-out grounder that went through second baseman Aaron Payne’s legs. That was more than Eshelman needed as he finished off the 95-pitch complete game retiring nine of the final ten batters he faced.
