williamsCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 15 on our Top 100 Countdown is Arizona State’s Trevor Williams. The 6’3 right-handed pitcher from San Diego, California spent the summer of 2012 with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

During his freshman season at Arizona State, Williams made 32 appearances for the Sun Devils. He posted a record of 1-0 with one save and a 2.50 ERA. In his 39.2 innings pitched, Williams struck out 35 and walked just six, holding opponents to a .200 batting average. His success earned him Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 and Freshman All-American honors.

His success continued into his sophomore season as he transitioned into the Sun Devils’ Saturday starter. Williams went 12-2 on the season with an ERA of 2.05. His 12 victories was tie for first in the nation amongst Division 1 pitchers. In his 109.2 innings he struck out 59 and walked 13. His success earned him First Team All-Pac-12 and Second Team All-American honors in addition to a place on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

From a scouting perspective, Williams has the control that a lot of collegiate pitchers lack. His repertoire includes his fastball that sits in the low 90s in addition to a slider, curve and changeup. Williams is a very efficient pitcher that locates his pitches extremely well. His proven success in both starting and relief roles also gives an added dimension to him as a pitching prospect. As the Friday starter for ASU in the 2013 season, Williams is one of the top players to watch for.
