Number 32 on our Top 100 Countdown is Arkansas’s Barrett Astin. The 6’1 right-handed pitcher from Forrest City, Arkansas helped to lead the Razorbacks to the College World Series in 2012.

As a freshman, Astin made 27 appearances for the Razorbacks, 24 of which were in relief. He posted a 5-2 record with an ERA of 2.72 on the season as he earned several honors including being named a Freshman All-American.

In his sophomore season, Astin made 32 appearances, 29 in relief, posting a record of 3-5 with 11 saves. He also posted an ERA of 1.99 while striking out 61 in 58.2 innings and holding opposition to a batting average of .210.

Following both the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Astin played for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod League. In 2012, Astin helped lead the Gatemen to the 2012 Cape Cod League title.

From a scouting perspective, Astin is a very talented pitcher who fits in well as a closer. He has slow delivery but solid location and he consistently throws strikes. His fastball sits in the low to mid 90s and he has one of the best breaking balls in college baseball. As one of the returning veterans on a very impressive Arkansas team, Astin is one of the top players to watch for in 2013.
