The No. 6 ranked Bruins will travel to Waco, Texas to take on the Baylor Bears this weekend. It will be UCLA’s first visit to Baylor in program history. UCLA (2-1) is coming off a series victory against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Bruins dropped the opener 6-2 in 10 innings Friday night, but rallied on Saturday by defeating the Gophers 14-0. On Sunday, sophomore starter Grant Watson kept the Gophers quiet by throwing six scoreless innings and tallying a career high eight strikeouts. Baylor (1-3) is coming off a win at home Tuesday against Texas State. The Bears were swept on the road at UC Irvine last weekend.

Loyola Marymount at Oregon

Oregon will kick off the 2013 home campaign against Loyola Marymount. The Ducks (4-0), ranked fifth in the latest NCBWA poll, are coming off a sweep in Hawaii. The four-game sweep was the first by the Ducks since the program was reinstated in 2009. The Ducks defeated Hawaii 3-0 Friday, 5-4 Saturday, 9-5 Sunday, and 4-2 Monday. Oregon’s four starters allowed only four runs in 22.2 innings pitched. Junior first basemen Ryon Healy lead the Ducks with a .533 batting average. He had a homerun and four RBI. Healy was named Pac-12 player of the week for February 11-17. Loyola Marymount (2-2) will enter the weekend after losing to USC Wednesday night. In the opening weekend, the Lions were able to take two of three versus Utah.

Oregon State at San Diego State

The Oregon State Beavers head to San Diego State to take on the Aztecs in a four-game series that begins Thursday night (OSU won game 1 8-1). The No. 8 ranked Beavers (4-0) arrived in San Diego Tuesday after winning the Palm Springs Tournament last weekend. The Beavers defeated Utah Valley 5-2 on Friday. Saturday resulted in a 9-2 Beaver victory over Gonzaga. The Beavers then defeated UC Riverside 14-3 on Sunday. The final game, on Monday, resulted in another Beaver victory 5-4, over UC Riverside. During the tournament in Palm Springs, the Beaver bullpen worked a combined 17 and 2/3 innings while not allowing an earned run. The pen walked six batters, gave up five hits, and struck out 12. San Diego State enters the series with the Beavers 3-0 after sweeping rival San Diego last weekend.

San Jose State at Arizona

The Wildcats will host the San Jose State Spartans in a three-game series. Coming into the weekend, the No. 10 ranked Wildcats hold a 4-1 record after splitting a mid-week two- game series at Long Beach State. The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday in a rain suspended game, 5-4. They rebounded Wednesday to defeat the Dirtbags 3-1. Arizona was able to open the season with a sweep of Coppin State. The Wildcats won Friday 16-0. Saturday’s final was 14-1. Sunday resulted in a 13-9 Wildcat victory as well. Junior starting pitcher James Farris was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for February 11-17. Farris went eight innings on Saturday while allowing two hits and one run. He struck out eight batters, which was a career high. San Jose State arrives in Arizona with a 2-2 record. The Spartans opened the season with back to back wins against University of the Pacific. The Spartans then dropped a game Sunday against University of the Pacific, and followed that loss with a loss against UC Davis this past Wednesday.

Fresno State at Stanford

The No. 14 ranked Stanford Cardinal will host the Fresno State Bulldogs over the weekend. The Cardinal, coming off losing two out of three at Rice, enters the weekend with a 2-2 record. On opening night, Rice defeated the Cardinal 5-1. Stanford rebounded Saturday to win 3-2. Rice then took the series by blanking the Cardinal 3-0 on Sunday. The Cardinal defeated California 5-0 Wednesday night. RHP Mark Appel will look to improve off a start in which he only lasted five innings. Appel gave up five runs, two of them earned, while striking out three. Stanford’s bullpen enters the weekend without allowing a run in 18.0 innings. Stanford outfielder Austin Wilson did not play against Cal. He sat out with a strain below his elbow. The injury is not considered to be serious, but it is something to watch out for during the weekend. The Fresno State Bulldogs enter the weekend 1-2, after dropping a three game series against UC Santa Barbara.

Arizona State at Tennessee

The Arizona State Sun Devils travel to Knoxville, Tenn., this weekend to take on the Volunteers. The Sun Devils enter the weekend 2-1 after defeating Bethune Cookman on Friday and Saturday. The Sun Devils dropped the Sunday matchup 7-6. Freshmen shortstop Drew Stankiewicz leads the Sun Devils offensively with a .538 batting average. He hit his first career homerun and notched 4 RBI in the series against Bethune Cookman. Eleven true freshmen played in the opening series. In the upcoming series against Tennessee, the player to watch will be LHP Ryan Kellogg who will make his first career start on Sunday. Tennessee will enter the series 1-3, after a four game series at UNLV.

California at UC Irvine

The University of California will travel to Anteater Ballpark to take on the No. 27 ranked UC Irvine Anteaters. The Bears (3-1) enter the four- game series against the Anteaters (3-0) after sweeping Michigan in Ann Arbor. Cal won the first two games against the Wolverines in extra innings; 5-4 in 11 innings Friday and 6-5 in 10 innings Saturday. The Bears then pulled off the sweep with a 2-1 victory Sunday. Stanford was able to defeat the Bears in a midweek matchup on Wednesday. Junior designated hitter Devon Rodriquez is leading the Bears with a .533 batting average entering play this weekend. UC Irvine is coming off a three game sweep at home against the Baylor Bears.

Cal State Northridge at USC

The University of Southern California will host the Cal State Northridge Matadors in a three-game series this weekend at Dedeaux Field. The game on Friday will be played at USC, while the Saturday game will be played at Northridge. On Sunday the teams will return to Dedeaux Field. The Trojans are riding a two-game winning streak after defeating Nebraska 4-3 this past Sunday. The Trojans second victory came Wednesday night after defeating Loyola Marymount 2-1. USC lost their first two games of the season on the road at Cal State Fullerton 3-2 and at CSU Bakersfield 9-4. The USC youth movement will be on hand this weekend as nine underclassmen are being counted on to fill everyday roles. So far this season, 16 underclassmen have seen time. Highly acclaimed freshmen Kyle Twomey is scheduled to get the start Sunday. Cal State Northridge is 3-1 on the year after taking three out of four from Saint Mary’s.

Washington at Lamar

The Washington Huskies schedule for this weekend has taken a dramatic twist. Instead of traveling to Beaumont, Texas to participate in a tournament between host Lamar, the Huskies, and Creighton, Washington will instead play Lamar in a four-game three-day series. Creighton announced that it was unable to make the trip after a snow storm hit the Midwest this week. Washington (1-3) looks to rebound after losing three out of four games on the road at UC Davis. The Huskies lost Friday 7-5. In the Saturday double header, Washington dropped the first game 6-5 but took the second game 3-2. On Sunday the Huskies lost the finale 7-5. Lamar is 4-1 on the season after defeating Northern Kentucky in a four-game series. This past Tuesday, Lamar traveled to LSU where they were defeated 8-1.

Eastern Michigan at Washington State

The Washington State Cougars (1-2) return to action this weekend after dropping two out of three at Western Carolina last weekend. The Cougars lost the first two games of the series by the score of 8-5 Friday and 15-10 on Saturday. Washington State was able to win the final game by the score of 4-1 before heading home to kick-off their 2013 home schedule. The Cougars currently lead the Pac-12 in homeruns with four. Centerfielder Jason Monda and 3B Nick Tanielu lead the Cougars with a .429 batting average. Eastern Michigan enters the weekend 1-1 after splitting a double header at Campbell The rest of the weekend series was postponed due to weather.

Utah at UC Davis

The Utah Utes will travel to UC Davis for a four-game series this weekend. Utah is 1-2 after losing two out of three at Loyola Marymount to start the season. The Utes won their first game of the year 6-3, behind six and a third innings of one run ball from starter Brock Duke. Duke struck out one but did not walk a batter. On Saturday, Utah was not able to plate a run as they fell 1-0. Loyola Marymount finished off the Utes Sunday by a final of 11-2. UC Davis enters the weekend 4-1 after taking three of four from Washington. UC Davis defeated San Jose State 22-4 on Wednesday.
