PatrickBiondiMichiganCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 41 on our Top 100 Countdown is Michigan’s Patrick Biondi. The 5’9 outfielder from Woodhaven, Michigan was selected in the 35th round by the Detroit Tigers in 2009.

In his three seasons so far at Michigan, Biondi has been a standout. In 2010 as a freshman, Biondi started all 57 games in the outfield where he didn’t commit a single error during conference play. Offensively, he was hitting .313 with team-high 69 runs, 6 triples and 29 stolen bases. His success earned him the honor of being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. The success continued into his sophomore year where he hit .286 with seven doubles, 21 RBI and 36 runs, also finishing second in the Big Ten in stolen bases, with 27.

As a junior, Biondi was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team for the second year in a row. He hit .303 on the season and led the team with 32 stolen bases, 44 runs and an on-base percentage of .408. Biondi also led the Big Ten in stolen bases with 32. Following the 2012 season, Biondi played for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod League for his second year in a row where he had an absolutely stellar summer. During the summer, Biondi was hitting .372 with 40 runs, 20 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He was named to the West Team for the Cape Cod League All Star Game.

From a scouting perspective, the success that Biondi had with a wood bat in the CCBL during the summer of 2012 shows a lot of promise. When added with his intuitive defense and fantastic base-running ability, that success may make all the difference for Biondi in the 2013 draft. Having Biondi back for his senior season gives the Wolverines one of their most talented players and leaders in 2013, as Biondi is one of the top players to watch for this season.
