greinerCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 50 on our Top 100 Countdown is South Carolina’s Grayson Greiner. The 6’5 catcher from Columbia, South Carolina was named to Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman All-American team in 2012.

As a freshman, Greiner saw action in 62 games including 53 starts. Greiner was fantastic behind the plate for the Gamecocks as he posted a fielding percentage of .995, catching 18 runners stealing. Offensively, Greiner finished the season with 26 runs, 13 doubles,  32 RBI and six home runs. In addition to being named to Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman All-American team, Greiner was also named to the SEC All-Freshman team as well as being named to the Team USA Collegiate National team (which he did not play on due to recovery from a knee injury.)

From a scouting perspective, Greiner is fantastic defensively. As one of the best catchers in the country, Greiner was able to step into a role behind the plate catching for veteran pitchers with maturity not seen in many college catchers, let alone college freshmen. He has tremendous accuracy, allowing him to frequently eliminate runners on the base paths. Greiner also has a great frame that he uses to his advantage behind the plate. With a lot of upside and a bright future ahead of himself at South Carolina, Greiner is one of the top 100 players to watch for in 2013.
