PaulMainieriChampionshipLSU incoming recruit Michael Barash for the 2013-2014 school year has decided to enroll early and play for the Tigers this spring. Barash is a 6’0 175 pound catcher out of West Boca Raton (Fla.) Community High School where he is known for being a solid defensive catcher with some pop in his bat.

Barash is the third player in the past two season in the SEC to skip his final high school season joining Vanderbilt’s Chris Harvey and Florida’s Taylor Gushue. Barash is the first player in LSU history to make this move.

LSU head coach Paul Maineri commented to Randy Rosetta of The Times Picayune about the move saying:

“He broached the subject with me last spring, and I told him I wanted to talk again after the (LSU) season was over,” Mainieri said. “I don’t like to see kids hurry their way through life. I wanted him to enjoy being in high school. I wanted to make sure he understood the situation was coming into it. I essentially tried to discourage him.

“He convinced me. He knew for sure this is what he wanted to do. There was no hesitation. He’s a kid who knows what he wants. He wanted to come to school earlier and everything he wanted to do he took care of. He’s show me that he’s very dependable and we already knew he was bright and had great physical tools.”
