College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 55 on our Top 100 Countdown is Coastal Carolina ’s Jacob May. The 5’10 outfielder/second baseman from Liberty Township, Ohio was a 39th-round draft pick by the Reds in 2010.

During his freshman season in 2011, May played in 44 games for Coastal Carolina starting 38, most of which were in left field. Throughout the season, May  was batting .206 with six doubles and thirteen RBI in addition to going 5-5 in stolen base attempts. He also posted a fielding percentage of .969.  In the summer of 2011, May played for the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League where he batted .296 with 12 doubles and 19 stolen bases.

In 2012, May played and started in 53 games for the Chanticleers. During the season, May hit .306 with seven doubles, four triples and two home runs. He was also 27-32 in stolen base attempts with a .969 fielding percentage. In the summer of 2012, May played for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod League where he was also named to the 2012 Cape Cod All-Star Team.

From a scouting perspective May’s draft stock has continued to rise since originally being drafted in 2010. He is an extremely athletic switch hitter with good bat speed and an easy swing. As is evident through his career stolen base numbers, May is very quick and an excellent baserunner. His athleticism also aids in his great range in the outfield. Along with his athleticism, May has great feel defensively which allows him to make big defensive plays. His tools and overall athletic ability make him a player with a lot of potential to excel as well as one of the top players to watch for in 2013.
