North Florida releases 2013 Schedule

UNFCollier.jpgJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team announced its 2013 schedule. The 55-game schedule consists of 33 home games at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys play six games against teams that competed in the 2012 NCAA Regionals.

In August, the University of North Florida Athletic Department announced a multi-year agreement with 1010 XL (AM) Jax Sports Radio to serve as the exclusive radio broadcasting partner of UNF Athletics beginning with the 2012-13 season. 1010 XL will broadcast all regular season and postseason games for the Osprey men’s basketball program along with at least 25 UNF baseball games. Robert Harper, UNF’s Director of Marketing, will serve as the “Voice of the Ospreys” for all UNF broadcasts.Like last season, UNF’s games on weekdays will generally be played at 6:00 p.m. with weekend contests slated for 1:00 p.m.

North Florida opens the 2013 season with recent Big 12 addition West Virginia. The Ospreys welcome the Mountaineers to Harmon Stadium for a three-game nonconference series on Friday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 17.

The Ospreys play a midweek game at NCAA Regional participant Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 19), before returning home for a weekend series with The Citadel on Feb. 22-24. UNF split a midweek series with the Bulldogs last season in Charleston, S.C.

UNF travels to Gainesville, Fla. on Tuesday, Feb. 26 for the first of two games against Florida. The Ospreys hosted Florida during the 2012 season, defeating the then No. 1 Gators, 10-5 in front of an over capacity crowd.

North Florida hosts Jacksonville State and Charleston Southern in a tournament on March 1-3. The Ospreys open the weekend with a game against the Gamecocks at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 1 before squaring off with the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. JSU and CSU will play a single game on Saturday, March 2. The weekend concludes with UNF playing both Jacksonville State (1:00 p.m.) and Charleston Southern (3:30 p.m.) on Sunday afternoon.

The Ospreys hit the road for the next four games. UNF travels to Orlando for a midweek showdown with NCAA participant UCF on Tuesday, March 5. North Florida continues the road swing with a three-game nonconference weekend series with South Alabama (March 8-10). Last season, the Ospreys swept the Jaguars in Jacksonville, thanks to a walk-off, pinch hit grand slam by Garrick Ferguson in the bottom of the 13th inning.

UNF continues the season with a home-and-home two-game nonconference series with Savannah State. The Ospreys host the Tigers on Tuesday, March 12 before playing a game in Savannah, Ga. on Wednesday, March 13.

North Florida welcomes Lafayette College to Jacksonville for a three-game series on March 15-17. Following the series with the Leopards, the Ospreys hit the road for five games. Tuesday, March 19, the Ospreys play versus Florida in Gainesville and Wednesday, March 20, UNF takes on Florida A&M in Tallahassee.

UNF continues the road swing and opens up the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference at Lipscomb on March 22-24 in Nashville, Tenn.

North Florida returns home to Harmon Stadium for 15 consecutive games. The Ospreys open the homestand with a midweek nonconference game against Bethune-Cookman (March 26). Following the game with the Wildcats, UNF plays its first home A-Sun series of the year against East Tennessee State on March 28-30. Because of Easter, the series with the Buccaneers is Thursday through Saturday.

The Ospreys begin play in April with a midweek game against Bethune-Cookman (April 2) before hosting Mercer in a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series on April 5-7. UNF hosts Florida A&M on Wednesday, April 10, before playing six consecutive A-Sun games at Harmon Stadium.

North Florida welcomes Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Northern Kentucky to Jacksonville on April 12-14. The Ospreys and the Norse have met once in program history back when the two teams were both Division II.

UNF continues its longest standing rivalry on April 19-21 as the Ospreys welcome Kennesaw State to Jacksonville. The Ospreys and Owls have met on the baseball diamond nearly every year since North Florida’s inaugural season in 1988 – 66 total games.

Six of the Ospreys’ next seven games are on the road. On April 26-28, North Florida travels across town for a three-game A-Sun series with Jacksonville in the annual SunTrust River City Rumble. UNF plays a home game with Georgia Southern on Tuesday, April 30, before travelling to DeLand for a three-game road conference series with Stetson on May 3-5.

North Florida hosts Florida Gulf Coast in the final home series of the year on May 10-12.

The Ospreys close out the 2013 regular season with four road games. UNF plays at Georgia Southern on May 14 and ends the year at USC Upstate on May 16-18.

The 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament will be held on May 22-25 in DeLand, Fla. on the campus of Stetson University. The following weekend (May 31-June 2) begins NCAA Regional action with NCAA Super Regionals held on campus sites on June 7-9. The College World Series returns to Omaha, Neb. on June 14-26.
