College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be counting down the players day-by-day until we reach number 1.
Number 61 on our Top 100 Countdown is Texas Tech junior pitcher Trey Masek. The Giddings, Texas native attended Giddings High School where he was a four year varsity letter winner. He was a four-time All-District selection while being named the Louisville Slugger Texas High School Player of the Year as a senior.
As a freshman, he served as the Red Raiders Big 12 Saturday starter making 16 appearances (11 starts) going 5-4 with a 4.70 ERA in a team-leading 67.0 innings allowing 69 hits, 44 runs (35 earned) with 33 strikeouts and 29 walks allowed while opponents batted .279. He was named Big 12 All-Freshman Team by the Coaches and College Baseball Daily.
He spent the summer in 2011 with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in the Cape Cod Baseball League making four appearances (all starts) going 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 19 innings allowing 20 hits, seven runs (all earned) with 16 strikeouts and seven walks allowed.
His sophomore season saw him go 2-4 with a 3.40 ERA with two saves in 53 innings pitched in 18 appearances (6 starts). He was able to hold opponents to a .244 batting average against without allowing a home run.
He spent the summer of 2012 with the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod Baseball League going went 3-3 with a 3.17 ERA in seven appearances (all starts) with 39.2 innings, 47 strikeouts and 19 walks allowed. He was named to the Western Division All-Star Team while being ranked the 16th best pro prospect in the league by Baseball America.
