Top 100 Countdown: 60. Mitchell Garver (New Mexico)

MitchGarverUNMCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be counting down the players day-by-day until we reach number 1.

Number 60 in our countdown is New Mexico senior catcher Mitchell Garver from Albuquerque, New Mexico where he attended La Cueva High School. He was named first team all-state, first team all-district, first team all-metro. honorable mention All-American honors in 2009.

As a freshman, he served as a backup to Rafael Neda where he batted .277 with 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored in 30 games (11 starts).

Garver became an everyday starter as a sophomore in 2011 starting all 61 games,  hitting .300 with 27 RBI and leading the squad in on-base percentage at .380.

He had an outstanding junior season starting 61 games while being named the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year. He led UNM in runs (68), doubles (27), and at bats (268) while ranking second on the team in batting (.377), hits (101), home runs (10), RBIs (57), slugging (.612), on base percentage (.438), and total bases (164). He was named Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American and a finalist for the Johnny Bench Award.
