Jeff RoyCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be counting down the players day-by-day until we reach number 1.

Number 63 on our Top 100 Countdown is Jeff Roy of Rhode Island. The 5’9 outfielder from Cranston, Rhode Island is the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

During his freshman season in 2011 Roy made an immediate impact for the Rams. He made 47 appearances, starting in 36 games, where he posted a batting average of .345 with 35 runs, 15 RBI, six doubles, five triples and a home run. His success earned him the honor of being named to the 2011 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.

In 2012, the success that Roy was experiencing only continued to grow. He started in all 59 games for Rhode Island and had another fantastic season. In 2012, he was either first or second for the Rams in every offensive category, highlighted by a batting average of .356 with 59 runs, 38 RBI, 33 BB, 15 doubles and five triples. Roy was recognized with a variety of honors including being named to the 2012 ECAC second team, 2012 NEIBA All-New England First Team, Atlantic 10 First Team and a 2012 College Baseball Insider All-American Honorable Mention as well as being named 2012 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year.

From a scouting perspective the consistency that Roy shows at the plate is fantastic. He reads pitches well and doesn’t fail to get on base. In addition to his consistency, Roy also has decent power for his size which adds to his success. Roy also is quick with great intuition which is evident through both his ability to steal bases as he had 22 stolen bases in 2012. However the consistency is really the selling point with Roy, as it allows him to continuously post numbers that are impossible to ignore, making him one of the top 100 players to watch for in 2013.
