Top 100 Countdown: 83. Danny Collins (Troy)

20121224-180122.jpgCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 83 Danny Collins from Troy University. The 6’2 205 pound junior infielder from Niceville High School in Niceville, Florida. He was a three year letter winner at Niceville hitting .420 with five homers with 27 RBI as a junior while hitting .390 with six homers and 30 RBI as a senior.

He spent the 2010 season with the Alabama Crimson Tide where he did not appear in a game as he was redshirted for the season.

In 2011, he transferred to Northwest Florida State College where he hit .419 with 12 doubles and 11 home runs while being named first team all-region, all-district, as well as being named second team All-American. He was also named the 2011 Conference Player of the Year.

As a sophomore in 2012, Collins transferred to Troy University as he didn’t stop hitting. He appeared in all 58 games with 45 starts at third base, 12 as the designated hitter and one at first base. He finished with a .318 average with 12 homers and 52 RBI.

He spent the summer of 2012 in the NECBL with the Laconia Muskrats where he shattered several records in home runs, slugging percentage, extra-base hits and total bases while playing for the Laconia Muskrats. The Niceville, Fla., native finished his 41-game schedule in the wood bat league with 19 home runs, an .818 slugging percentage, 29 extra-base hits and 130 total bases. Collins finished the summer second in the league in batting average (.390), second in runs scored (37), second in hits (62) and fifth in RBIs (37). He was named MVP of the League while being named All-League.
