GambinoSmallCHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team released the 2013 schedule on Friday afternoon. The 56-game slate begins with two tournaments in North Carolina and the Eagles will host five Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in Chestnut Hill.

In 2013, the Eagles will face eight teams from the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including Florida State, which advanced to the College World Series and three (Florida State, St. John’s and NC State) that went on to Super Regionals.

BC opens the season at the Country Inn and Suites Tournament, hosted by Elon University. The Eagles will face Virginia Commonwealth, Marist and host Elon. Before heading to a tournament hosted by East Carolina where the Maroon and Gold will play Ohio, Illinois and the host school, the Eagles play their annual exhibition against the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla.

The team has played at the Red Sox’s spring training site every year since 1993. The 23rd meeting between the Sox and the Eagles will take place on Thursday, Feb. 21. Northeastern will play the first game of the doubleheader beginning at 1:35 p.m. BC’s game is set to begin 40 minutes after it ends.

The Eagles kick off their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule in Tallahassee, Fla., on March 8. The Seminoles took two of three from the Eagles in Chestnut Hill last year, but the Eagles played them close, falling, 6-5, and 6-3. They came back to take the third game, 17-6, over the then-No. 1 FSU, defeating a top-ranked team for the second time in two years.

BC also travels to Georgia Tech (March 15-17), Wake Forest (April 19-21) and Maryland (May 16-18). The Eagles won all three series last year, including sweeping the Demon Deacons and defeating the Yellow Jackets in walk-off fashion.

The maroon and gold play its first game in Massachusetts on March 19 at Holy Cross before opening the home schedule against another in-state rival, Northeastern one day later. The Eagles will then host ACC-foe North Carolina on March 22 in a three-game series. They also take on Clemson (April 5-7), NC State (April 12-14), Miami (April 26-28) and Virginia Tech (May 3-5) at the friendly confines of Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field. BC was 12-10 in 2012.

The Beanpot will begin on April 10 as BC will face Massachusetts on the Minutemen’s home field. The winner takes on the victor of Northeastern-Harvard on Monday, April 29. The Eagles have won 10 titles, the latest in 2011.

The Eagles will play two neutral site games, taking on St. John’s at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn., and Maine in Portland at Hadlock Field. Last year, BC defeated the Red Storm in a pitcher’s duel, 2-1, but fell, 9-4, to the Black Bears.

The 2013 ACC Championship is scheduled for May 22-26 and will be held at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.

In his second season at The Heights, head coach Mike Gambino led the Eagles to a 22-33 finish in 2012, going 10-20 in the ACC.
