CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina baseball team released its 2013 schedule, which includes 35 home games, four home tournaments, home-and-home series with UNC Wilmington, College of Charleston and The Citadel as well as road games versus ACC members Wake Forest, North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
Due to construction on the new $10.2 million baseball/softball complex this spring, Coastal Carolina will play its home games and tournaments at Myrtle Beach’s TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. However, the 2013 season opener versus James Madison (Feb. 15) will be played in Florence S.C., at Francis Marion’s Sparrow Stadium. Also, as it has been in the past, all games during the annual Caravelle Resort’s Baseball at the Beach (Feb. 28-March 3) will not be a part of the CCU season ticket package.
Coastal Carolina’s 32-game baseball season ticket package is $100 for the general public and $80 for CCU faculty and staff. Unlike the past, a donation to the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation (CAF) is not required to purchase baseball season tickets this year. However, the three sections behind home plate that have been reserved for season ticket holders will be allocated based on CAF priority points. To be a part of the “Select-A-Seat” event prior to the start of the season, fans must purchase their season tickets by Jan. 29.
The remainder of the stadium will be general admission seating. For more information, contact the CCU Athletics Ticket Office at 843-347-8499.
The Chanticleers will begin 2013, playing 21 games – 20 at home – in 31 days.
As mentioned, Coastal will open the season hosting James Madison in a three-game series Feb. 15-17. The first game will be played in Florence due to the Myrtle Beach Marathon with the remaining two games starting Coastal’s run at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. While season tickets will provide a guaranteed seat for the game in Florence, seat locations may vary at Sparrow Stadium.
Coastal will play the first of four home tournaments Feb. 22-24, welcoming Elon, Kentucky, Kansas State and Marshall for the Caravelle Resort Tournament.
The following week (Feb. 28-March 3) will be the 14th annual Caravelle Resort’s Baseball at the Beach. The event opens with Coastal hosting San Diego before West Virginia, Indiana, UMBC, Florida Atlantic and North Carolina State join. The Coastal – North Carolina State contest March 3 at 5 pm will have an NCAA Regional feel as the Wolfpack bring one of the nation’s top pitchers, Carlos Rodon, to Myrtle Beach. Last season, Coastal edged N.C. State, 3-2, despite Rodon striking out 10 Chanticleers in four innings.
After a mid-week, two-game set with Furman at home, the Chants will host the Coastal Carolina Invitational (March 8-11), featuring Ball State, Harvard and Ohio State. Coastal’s first road game will be March 13 at UNC Wilmington before returning home for the fourth and final tournament, the Chanticleer Classic (March 15-17) versus Akron, Quinnipiac and Michigan.
The Chants hit the road March 19 to face Wake Forest and will open Big South play March 22-24 at home versus Gardner-Webb. Coastal will additionally host conference foes Liberty (April 5-7), Radford (April 19-21) and UNC Asheville (May 10-12). Other mid-week home games include The Citadel (April 3), College of Charleston (April 9), UNC Charlotte (April 30) and UNC Wilmington (May 14).
Highlighting the non-conference schedule is a road game at North Carolina (April 16) and a three-game weekend series with Georgia Tech (May 2-5).
The 2013 Big South Tournament is set for May 21-25 and will be hosted by Liberty.
