ty_jones-Liu_webBROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn head baseball coach Don Maines announced the team’s 2013 schedule on Monday. The Blackbirds open the season with a three-game series at High Point on Feb. 22-24, and will also travel to California and Florida for tournaments during the non-conference season.

LIU will face Cal State Bakersfield for three contests on March 1-3 before heading to Florida for seven games over a 10-day stretch. Neutral-site tilts against Big Ten foe Northwestern and Ivy League members Yale and Dartmouth round out the trip, and are preceded by games against Illinois State, Navy, Miami (Ohio) and Bucknell.

The Blackbirds open up their home schedule on Wednesday, March 20 against St. John’s at LIU Field. The Red Storm earned a trip to the NCAA Super Regionals last year, falling to eventual national champion Arizona.

A three-game split series with Lehigh is followed by the beginning of Northeast Conference play on March 28-30 at Sacred Heart. The Pioneers earned the NEC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament last season by virtue of winning the NEC Tournament title.

Road trips to Fairleigh Dickinson (Apr. 12-14), regular-season NEC champion Bryant (Apr. 28-30), and Monmouth (May 17-19) round out the away schedule, in addition to non-conference midweek games against Saint Peter’s (Apr. 3), Villanova (Apr. 10), Rider (Apr. 17) and Hofstra (Apr. 24).

LIU’s first home conference series takes place on Apr. 5-7 against Central Connecticut State. The Blackbirds will also take on Mount St. Mary’s (Apr. 19-21), Quinnipiac (May 3-5) and Wagner (May 10-12) in four-game NEC sets at LIU Field.
