CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball program released their 2013 schedule Thursday afternoon. The Redhawks will play 31 games at Capaha Field this season.

“We created a very challenging schedule this season,” said head coach Steve Bieser. “We will play a lot of talented ball clubs that will make this one of our best schedules in recent memory.”

Southeast will play six teams (Austin Peay, Belmont, Creighton, Missouri, Missouri State and Oral Roberts) that qualified for an NCAA Regional in 2012.

The Redhawks open up the season at New Orleans on February 15-17 against the Privateers.

Southeast opens their home slate on February 19 against Harris-Stowe. The Redhawks first home weekend series is set for February 22-24 against Summit League foe and 40-game winner North Dakota State.

Other non-conference weekend series include a visit from Oral Roberts on March 1-3. Regional rival Memphis will make a trip to Capaha Field to close out the regular season May 16-18.

“It is very important that we play Memphis to help build a regional rivalry,” said Bieser.

Mid-week opponents highlight this year’s schedule as the Redhawks make a trip to Missouri on April 30. The Redhawks and Tigers last meeting was during the 2006 season.

“It’s going to be exciting to play Missouri,” said Bieser. “It gives us a chance to play with the best and compete with them.”

Southeast hosts Missouri Valley Conference champion Creighton on March 12. Other mid-week contests include Saint Louis, Arkansas-Little Rock, Missouri State, Mid-Continent, Arkansas State, Southern Illinois, Missouri-St. Louis.

The Redhawks open up Ohio Valley Conference play March 8-10 against new OVC member Belmont. Southeast will face EKU in their OVC home opener March 15-17.

Southeast will host UT Martin (March 28-30), Austin Peay (April 12-14), Jacksonville State (April 26-28) and Tennessee Tech (May 10-12) in OVC weekend series.

The Redhawks will make OVC weekend trips to Morhead State (March 22-24), SIUE (April 5-7), Eastern Illinois (April 19-21) and Murray State (May 3-5).

“The conference is becoming stronger every year,” said Bieser. “The OVC is very deep and it will be a challenge ever weekend.”

Southeast Missouri finished the 2012 season 23-36 overall and qualified for the OVC Tournament for the 18th consecutive season, an OVC Record.
