Michigan WolverinesANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan baseball team announced its upcoming 2013 schedule on Thursday (Nov. 8). The season is highlighted by two trips to California, an exhibition with the New York Mets, a game at Citi Field and 24 Big Ten Conference games.

“We’re excited about our 2013 schedule,” first-year head coach Erik Bakich said. “Our non-conference slate should be very competitive in preparation for Big Ten play. We are fortunate to travel to different parts of the country with trips to California, Florida, South Carolina, and have a tremendous opportunity to play in Citi Field.”

The Maize and Blue opens the 2013 schedule Friday, Feb. 15, against Pac-12 foe California at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, Calif. That starts a three-game series with the Bears, who went to the College World Series in 2011. Michigan then makes its first of two trips to the Sunshine State, opening a three-game set with Fordham at the New York Mets Spring Training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Wolverines and Rams will play a single game on Feb. 22 and a doubleheader on Feb. 23.

Back on the schedule in 2013, Michigan will play the New York Mets in an exhibition (Feb. 24) at noon at Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie. The Maize and Blue heads back to Florida for four games in the Snowbird Invitational in Port Charlotte, Fla. U-M faces Mount St. Mary’s on March 1, has a doubleheader with Saint Louis on March 2 and plays Georgetown on March 3.

The four games in Port Charlotte start the annual Spring Break trip, which includes a midweek game at Florida Gulf Coast and four games at the San Diego Tournament, to be held on the campus of the University of San Diego March 7- 10. Michigan will face Saint Louis two more times at USD and has single games against Holy Cross and the host Toreros. Michigan will wrap up the tournament weekends in Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Coastal Carolina Tournament March 15-17. The tournament, which will be played at TicketReturn.com Field, home of the Single-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, features a pair of games against the host Chanticleers and one game against Akron.

Michigan returns home to play at Eastern Michigan on March 20 and begins its 23-game home schedule with a three-game series against Western Illinois. Opening Day at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium, will be March 29 at 6:05 p.m.

After the series with the Leathernecks, the Wolverines head to New York to face Yale at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets in Flushing, N.Y. U-M then opens its Big Ten schedule at home with a three-game series against Minnesota March 29-31. Michigan also will play Michigan State (April 6) once and three games apiece against Penn State (April 12-14), Iowa (May 3-5) and 2012 Big Ten champion Purdue (May 10-12) in Ann Arbor. Michigan’s road conference series include two games at Michigan State and a full series at Northwestern, Indiana and Nebraska.
